That conference realignment is about money. Mizzou was added for money. TV deals result in money. Bigger media markets result in more lucrative TV deals. The SEC wanted more money and thus, more major media markets.

These are the top 10 metropolitan areas in the SEC:

Dallas-7,095,411 (Texas A&M)
Miami-6,375,434 (Florida)
Houston-6,371,677 (Texas A&M)
Atlanta-6,092,295 (Georgia)
Orlando-2,920,603 (Florida)
St. Louis-2,900,605 (Missouri)
Tampa-2,842,878 (Florida)
Kansas City-2,376,631 (Missouri)
San Antonio-2,234,003 (Texas A&M)
Nashville-1,845,235 (Tennessee, Vanderbilt)

You'll notice that Mizzou brings 2 of the SEC's top 10 media markets (20%) to the table. Texas A&M and Missouri combine to make up 5 of the top 10 media markets in SEC territory. The 2012 expansion of Texas A&M and Missouri literally makes up half of the SEC's top 10 media markets.

Yet still, some of you fail to understand that Mizzou wasn't added to win national titles for the SEC. It wasn't added to fit in with you culturally. Mizzou was added for the $$$. The sooner some of you can accept that, the sooner you can quit wasting your time bitching about a school you claim is irrelevant.

Now, I know why we took A&M, but why Mizzou?

And who is Barry Odom?

The SEC network is based on a lot more than college football, although it is obviously most important.

I don't think anyone is saying otherwise.

There's no reason we'd want A&M or Mizzou other than the money

KC and STL are pro sport towns, exclusively.

Congrats on getting in the SEC. I'm hoping one day you'll be in the West.

Atlanta's metro is a little ridiculous imo. It consists of almost 40 counties stretching all the way to the Carolina borders.

Is Missouri big money in either market, though? Seems to me they're behind the pro franchises, both local and ones in adjacent states.

It's not like Vanderbilt is considered the gateway to that sweet, sweet Nashville cash bonanza.

In all fairness, when Mizzou wins, the KC area goes apeshit for them, but when they're "meh", they hide out from all the KU basketball fans.

KC loves them some Jayhawk Basketball wang.
