This article speculates about which teams the SEC would target if they do another expansion.

Realignment can go frick itself. Its dead.

The money that drove all of that has left the market due to cord cutting, and the next generation content providers (aka Netflix, Hulu, Amazon) think that sports is already overpriced so they won't pay a premium for the SEC plus say OU.

We might see more realignment, but it won't be something like the Big 10 and the SEC grabbing programs for a cable footprint. It will be consolidation- aka something like the PAC merging with the Big 12 for the survival of both.

Realistically, you have two pools of possibilities: Group of 5 schools (listed in my own order of strength of résumé): Central Florida, Cincinnati, Memphis, South Florida, Houston, East Carolina, Appalachian State, New Mexico, Hawaii (slightly out of SEC footprint but think of the road trips!). Big 12 schools.

Are Towers and Emerson UGA grads?

"Drew Mann · South Florida Bible College & Theological Seminary
Oklahoma, Kansas for the West, UCF and West Virginia for the East. Move Auburn to the East, Missouri to the West. I don't see how the Big 12 stays in tact long term and can't imagine the top tier of the AAC and MWC not seeking greener pastures. Four 16-18 team conferences creating their own division for football seems to be inevitable. The current model, where 130+ universities have a D1 football team and the majority don't even break even financially doesnt seem sustainable."

12 worked great. 16 would be even better. 14 has been a nightmare.
But WHAT would 18 look like? You COULDN'T do 2 divisions (8 of your games would already be booked). You'ld have at least 1 cross-div. game. So there's 75% of your schedule set.
So WHO would be the "chosen 4" for the SEC?
