Just watched the story on Tua and his family on gameday. He said that he used to get whipped after bad games. His dad straight up said “he could go 15-15 with 4 TDs but if he threw one pick in the game it would be the worst game.” He says the family motto is faith and discipline, meaning the Bible and the belt. Now I was raised that way. Got my arse beat by my dad on the reg cause I was a little shite but he never, not once did he ever give me a whippin because I had a bad game. Sure I would get yelled at but whippings because your child played bad?? That’s crazy. That’s the type of parent that you see on those documentaries.

Clearly education is secondary in that family

That’s why you didn’t go pro. Not living in a big ole mansion somewhere, soaking it up in a hot tub with your soul mate.

Maybe that's why you're typing about Tua and Tua's being Tua

I think it's safe to say the vast majority of NFL players were never beaten by their parents for bad games.

Yes, every NFL great was beaten incessantly as a child. It’s common knowledge.

The Joe Jackson approach will pay massive dividends in the very near future

Yeah, I feel for the kid.

I wonder how much Saban paid the kid's dad for Tua.

Maybe you would have done better with the extra whippings?

Look at the jockeys whipping the horses in the stretch run

Fear and pain are big motivators.

Tua seems happy, but then again most abused women seem happy too.

Or maybe his dad is a effing nut job and got lucky that his son didn’t turn out like so many other kids who had over bearing sports parents who were trying to live out their dream thru their children.

I thought it was more about coming from a poor neighborhood and working your arse off, but this makes sense
