One of the most entertaining football games I think I have ever seen, and craziest finish to a football game in recent memory.

Down 28-19, Thompson High School fails to convert on 4th down on their own 20. Auburn High School goes into a victory formation and takes the knee with 1:14 left, Thompson burns time outs.

Auburn eventually goes to punt after backing too far away for a FG try.

BLOCKED!
RETURNED FOR A TD!

Auburn 28 - Thompson 26

Onside kick - recovered by Thompson with 15 seconds left.

Twice Auburn gets flagged for PI. Thompson gets to the Auburn 20 yard line.

Thompson kicks a 35 yard FG as time expires to win the game 29-28.

All this occurred after Thompson's starting QB (a potential Mr. Football) was injured before the last drive of the first half.

Just a HELL of a game.

The WJOX guys kept mentioning this but I missed the full story. That is crazy.

Unreal finish. Yet another blow for Auburn in BDS.

I saw that. Former UGA LB Jake Ganus is the LBs coach for Thompson.

Also, Auburn lost

Holy shite. Anyone have a link to video of ending.

I even love when Auburn High loses, especially in humiliating fashion.

Jake Ganus

He’s a genuinely good dude, and young enough to really reach those high school kids.

I think he could eventually work his way into college coaching if he wants to.

Man.. that onside kick was bad. You can tell none of the Auburn guys really wanted to stick their nose in there and try to grab it. They just sat on their heels and got blown back

They must have learned how to handle recovering onside kicks from the Atlanta Falcons.

The controversy here is that Auburn had the ball on Thompson's 20-yard line, and for some reason tried to kill the clock by lining up in shotgun, snapping the ball, and running around backwards a few times, which resulted in them going all the way back to midfield.

Terrible end-game management by their coach.

So can someone who actually watched this unfold explain to me how you get a turnover on downs at the 20 and then manage to kneel your way almost out to midfield?

Nevermind. I see where it was posted. Goddamn that was stupid. Just take 3 knees from under center and kick the FG.

Yeah... I have NO idea what guy was thinking. Maybe they had practiced something like that and it had worked then? I seriously don't know.

I mentioned this in the MSB thread about this, but why did Auburn knee the ball when kneeing wasn’t going to run out the clock? I guess they wanted to avoid a fumble, but I wouldn’t find that risk to be that much worse than knowing you have to punt the ball back. It seems like you’d do 3 run plays and at least try to get a first down so that you could actually knee the ball and run out the clock.

I'm starting to wonder if they forgot Thompson had time outs left honestly.
