So in retrospect, how close was the Herman to LSU deal?

Was it all smoke screen? Or was it ink not drying before Texas stepped in?

Was it bad ethics by Herman or your ad not giving a proper contract

He was gone before the least shite hit the fan. Herman is fine.

ETA: thought you were connecting the dots of him being under Urban at OSU when this shite went down.

Let's put it this way, he was closer to becoming SC's coach (until Elliot dropped the Citadel game) than he was to becoming LSU's coach.

Personally, I'm happy that we dodged that bullet.

LSU fans should be as well. He used LSU to get the Texas job.

Herman may do well at Texas, but Herman was not a good fit for LSU.

Herman is not SEC material. May we all admit that at least? He's afraid of the SEC, it's that plain and simple.

Dodged a bullet? Will Muschamp is your coach. 99% of college ADs would rather have Herman.

I'll just let the downvotes smack you into the reality of the idiocracy of your post.

No doubt, some ADs would prefer Herman ... but Boom has earned his way back so-far by overachieving while Herman underachieved last year in the eyes of many.

Not only that but many are now recognizing the absolute shite show Boom inherited at UF AND SC. Herman inherited a much better situation at Texas.

His offenses would have been a perfect fit for LSU since most high schools run a spread offense and they could have finally had some solid qb play.

I don't think Herman was ever serious about LSU. He wanted Texas.

Never was close. Herman was just using LSU to increase his salary with Texas. Like an idiot, LSU cut ties completely with Herman early. Why not jack up his salary and force Texas to really over pay for him because he never was going to go to LSU.

I'm not sure it was about money, but about shoving Charlie Strong out of the way.

Yes, there was a consensus of UT administrators who still wanted to keep Strong after the Kansas loss. The boosters put the kibosh on that.

I basically agree. I didn't think Herman, at that point in his career, was worth the price tag. And I don't blame Alleva for not getting into a bidding war for a coach who was unproven in major college football. However, what transpired thereafter is 100% the fault of Alleva and F King Alexander. I honestly would have rather them kept the interim tag on Orgeron another year, regardless of the risks in doing that, than to commit to Orgeron for 5 years. Miles also shouldn't have been fired until the end of the season and shouldn't have been fired period unless they had the next guy locked up. But, alas, here we are.

And full disclosure, I do believe Herman would have accepted the job if Texas wasn't in the picture, but he still wasn't worth the price tag IMO. You don't fire a coach like Miles to pay a guy with his experience that much money.

That is more of a reflection of the expectations than anything. Muschamp went 6-7 in his first year at SC, Herman went 7-6.

In the 7 years prior, Texas had finished ranked one time (19th in 2012) and had 4 losing seasons. USC had finished in the top 10 in 3 of the 5 seasons preceding Boom taking over, with one losing season. Before he took over at Florida, the Gators had won two national titles, finished ranked 5 of the previous 6 seasons (three times in the top 3), and had no losing seasons.

If there were any way to quantify what the coach inherited in each of these scenarios, Herman's would be the worst by a landslide. I personally think he'll be good at Texas, but that's just my opinion.

What would be the point in doing that? How would jacking up the price for Texas benefit LSU? Why should they have spent time doing that instead of finding a coach that would actually sign? LSU was stupid giving up signing anyone else after Herman wasn't going to happen, not for giving up on Herman when they did.
