Don’t believe that’s true at all.
Nearly every elite basketball coach who uses the one and done model has found themselves at some point with a broken roster due to unexpected attrition. It’s one of the prime weaknesses of the approach IMO.
Unless there is some factor behind the scenes (home life, booster drama, etc) I think he just needs to get an influx of talent to get things started again.
I mean UK with just the kid they lost to UCLA via transfer is definitely a tournament team this year.

They are going to get Ivey when Beard tells them no

I wouldn’t take that job if I were Beard unless I didn’t have commitments on resources, pay or facilities at Tech.
He’s built up a ton of good will in Lubbock, at Texas he’s just another mercenary hire who will have to deal with the booster factions and other drama in Austin.

He’s massively overpaid at $8 million. Why would anyone pay him more?
Posted on 3/31/21 at 8:41 am to NocaHomas Teepee
No. Because it’s like Saban to Texas all over again.

Beard is going to get a Fisher type of contract from Tech if he wants it. Long term deal

They have Petino on there. No way I would trust this book.

Well and if the prevailing thought is Cal is tired of dealing with UK fans and boosters, why in the hell would someone go to Texas instead? That’s about as redundant as it gets.

Damn what do they not fricking run odds on? I feel bad for gambling addicts

I'm really lukewarm on Cal. Great recruiter, average in game coach. Tough call. With that said, he's not going to Texas.

Cal is not going to Texas...even though someone was floating the idea. Cal just picked up a huge transfer from Davidson and is about to get 3 more players. Cal seems he is ready to prove he is not washed up.

I think this is true. This past season has to be painful to him, and hopefully he can bounce back with some good transers. Already got Grady.

I mean I get it, and sometimes a fresh start is in order, but who in the college game is ranked above him?
I mean you have:
-K who is retirement age
-Roy at UNC same
-Wright at Villanova
-Mark Few who is a small school guy
-Maybe Izzo at Michigan State but he’s retirement age?
After that you have a lot of question marks, especially when it comes to coaching at high pressure jobs like UK, Kansas etc.

Dont ever compare Cal to Saban.
Cal has one title in his 30+ years of coaching

Yeah you are right. He needs Kenny Payne back. We are missing him more than anything else.

Its the one flaw in his makeup. On the other hand, other than odd years like this, he will recruit so well you can sleep walk your way to a twenty+ win season most years.
Texas could do much worse. The question is who in their right mind would be willing to splash the cash it would take to get him out of Kentucky?

You'll rarely see an over/under on the number of people wishing kansas would take a meteor hit. Nobody chooses the over, when "all of them" is the line.
