80 catches – 2nd in nation.

1,305 yards-Leads the nation.

15 TDs- Tied for 1st in nation.

75% of Smith's 80 catches have gone for either a first down or a touchdown - Insane, he's been pressed at the line of scrimmage on about 83% of his routes (per Pro Football Focus).

Quit making it a QB award. There’s not a better player in the nation.

Not to mention he makes plays to win games in the biggest games when everybody knows he is the #1 option - and has for 4 years now (even when he wasn't the #1 guy).

Give him the damn award you cowards

One of top reasons I'd support this is because he came back for his senior year

These guys need to start being rewarded for that decision

He's got the numbers, he's on the right team, and he's passed up millions to better his craft at the college level

I think he's deserving, but it concerns me that the vote might be split in the South and Mid-Atlantic regions, while Fields should get all of the Midwest.

There is not a better option this year. With 2 of the top QBs limited by CV19 impacts to games and playing time, look at who really is THE most outstanding player in 2020.

It is Smith. Very deserving

If anybody votes for Justin Fields for the Heisman trophy when in 20% of his games, and against the only non-terrible team on his schedule, he threw 3 interceptions, then they should lose their damn vote.

It'll go to a QB that will under perform at the NFL level..

I think him missing the game against ND kinda killed his chances. The media wasn't going to let their golden child end his college career without a Heisman, but by him not playing in the ND game they were denied the opportunity to build up a relatively mundane play into something like Montana to Clark or Roethlisberger to Holmes, put it on repeat for 6 weeks, and ignore everything else to gush over how amazing Sunshine is and give him an award he didn't deserve.

Lawrence's Numbers
QB Rating : #12
ESPN QBR : #9
Yards Per Game : #11
Yards Per Attempt : #10
Completion % : #13
Total Yards : #11
TD Passes : #12

He's not even been a top 10 quarterback this season, led alone a top 10 overall player.

He should win it but it has been 30 years since a receiver won the award. You can count on one hand the amount of non-QBs to win it since the turn of the century. If he were also a dynamic KR/PR in the vein of Javier Arenas he might have stood a chance.

If he can get a TD return in the kicking game in the next two games, I think he has a real shot. Charles Woodson and Tim Brown both had that element to their game.

I'd have to agree with you. He was the second best player in college last year.

As stupid as that is I 100% agree. If he runs back a punt at Arkansas and has huge games vs them and Florida (like 175+ yards, 2+ TDs, etc) and does something on special teams.......he has a shot.

We all know how momentum goes with these things. He could do some stuff, all of a sudden everyone goes "you know what, DeVonta Smith is the best player" and then within 48 hours he's the favorite.

I agree, as dumb as it sounds, there is usually that Heisman "moment."

The one handed catch last week may have been it had the game been closer, but a special teams TD would almost certainly have that effect at this point.

He's +2200 right now. Super tempted to throw 100 bucks on that. The sad part is he pretty much needs some sort of movement from the media to actually pull it off

200+ yards and 3+ TDs in each game...including a PR or KO TD in each game...let a couple of those TD catches be amazing like the one over Stingley...combined with Trask getting his arse beat...and I think Smith wins it. You're absolutely right about momentum. He has some now.
