Awesome Bama team, undefeated and wanting to play for the national championship.
Less talented Auburn team that nobody expected to come in with a strong record. (Auburn was 8-1 in 1972.)
One can hope....

Couldn't care less about an obscure game no one remembers.

Just because A&M hasn't played for a title since before WWII doesn't mean other teams haven't.

If you mean that it would take a once-in-the-history-of the-game fluke for Auburn to win, perhaps you're right.

I did know the LSU score from 1972, yep.

Bama was still SEC champs that year; and the next year, they won the SEC and the UPI national championship.
Auburn went on to have a 6-6 season the next year; and didn't win a national championship for 38 years.

I remember all too well. I was there.
And unless I see David Langner out on the field in uniform, I am good.

AU had 50 yards rushing and 30 yards passing, 7 1st downs.

Yep. Probably the biggest fluke in the history of college football. A team with less than 100 yards of total offense was able to pull off two miracle blocked punts to win the game. The score was 16-0 going into the 4th quarter.

The game hasn't changed at all since 1972, so you're probably right.
I mean 41 years ago it felt just like this....
Maybe 1989 is a better example.
It doesn't fricking matter what century it feels like because it feels like Alabama is going to whip Auburn's arse.
Alabama is #1 and two time defending champs.
Bama is not a 2 loss top 11 team like AU escaped from in 2010.
