I don't think Cam got any major payoff for Auburn, and there is absolutely zero evidence he did.
Cam and Cecil got burned bc MSU is poor. You can't play that card over and over in the same conference. The far likelier scenario is that the only reason Cecil was looking at MSU (instead of AU and Oklahoma) is because they thought they could get something out of a lesser program. It's a HS kid taking the scholly from an FCS school rather than walking on at a major conference school.
Did Cam get the everyday benefits most star players do here and there (probably no orchestrated payoff) - probably. But I'd absolutely bet Cam never got a defined payoff for his commitment.

No. Only the most ignorant fans think Auburn needed to pay him to get him on campus.
Cam was not a big time recruit. Oklahoma (Stoops) and Tennessee (Kiffin) both looked at him as a tight end and both said he and his family never asked for money.
Auburn was competing against miss state for his signature and that does not require money. Auburn is better in every way (in football).
Now, do I think Auburn cheats? Yes because everyone does it. But we don’t cheat on prospects that look like they “might have” potential. Cam was potential and turned out better than that.
Auburn paid him nothing. In return, we got a natty and rent space in the heads of rivals for eternity.
If this exact story involved a player like Byron Cowart or Leon Hart - I would not be so sure of myself. Because they were national top 20 players and every school wanted them.

There really are no similarities between the two. One was rumor mongering and the other is recorded. One the FEDS and NCAA investigated. The other....the NCAA has yet to get their paws on.

Big difference in Auburn and LSU here.

Cam didn't do anything and Auburn didn't do anything. And you cannot prove we did, no matter how much you want to believe it. That is where the similarity is, but don't go throwing Auburn under the bus because you want to seem cool and impartial.
