Two member teams are in the Southwest. At least one’s in the Midwest. If we add more teams from different areas, will it become even more spurious to call it the SEC?

No.

You have to remind these outsiders why they are here;

Southern innovation, fortitude, and desire about football.

That is why those teams are now in this league. Because we do it best. We were proactive with conference champ games because the sport needed it while the Midwest and Pac frogs in a pot were trying to protect the Rose Bowl.

It also spills out into everyday culture. Folks ain’t flocking to the south due to the weather. It’s because we produce a conducive environment for culture and business.

I could go on. But the south is pretty much better than anyone at anything except for pizza and sushi.

Texas is hardly in the southwest if you actually look at the map. I know people used to call it the southwest but New Mexico, Arizona, and California beg otherwise.

No. Texas is a southern state and Austin is about where the South stops and the West begins. Same for Norman (lived there for three years). South and east of there is West Arkansas, north and west is the Great Plains. Southern Missouri is basically northern Arkansas. All three of those schools mark the limit of western/northern expansion, with the possible exception of OSU (if you’re going to have Aggie’s oil money, you might as well have T. Boone’s!) Expansion should be focused northeast. UNC and UVA are the top targets. If that brings about a collapse if the ACC, then you look at other properties to fill in the map/keep the B1G out (VT, NCSU, Clemson, GT, FSU, Miami, L’ville, Duke, & Wake) which can get you to 28 if you want (but more likely just 24, with 12 in each time zone). All of which are well within the “Southeast” so the name still fits.

If you split the map into four both Texas and Oklahoma are in the southeast

Southern innovation, fortitude, and desire about football.

Fine words. But you ignore the fact that the SEC is in the best recruiting grounds?

Absolutely not. Can't believe a fellow Georgia fan would bring this up. We supposed to know better!

The SEC name is untouchable, as it forever should be. It is the modern name of complete domination in the biggest money making sport. The SEC is a brand with no numbers. It’s unique and is what any program wants. SEC is an all-world conference with a name that will never waiver.

Let's just rename it the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Go super old school.

Not to mention that conference had Texas in it, along with all the current members of the SEC that were there when the SEC was founded.
