"Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has signed a bill into law allowing college athletes in the state to make endorsement money starting on July 1
The new law also allows schools to take up to 75% of an athlete’s endorsement income and redistribute to other athletes"
per yahoo sports
That should definitely pull in the 5 stars...

As has been confirmed with UGA compliance by one of our beat writers, though, UGA will not use this provision and will instead allow players to do their own thing and make their own money.
Provision is just there so it can be used if chosen by a school like Southern, Tech, Valdosta St, etc

I believe the language states that it will be up to the schools if they want to require holding the compensation... And I highly doubt many schools will choose to do so...

Drew is right: In fact, Georgia compliance tells me that beginning July 1 its athletes may earn compensation off their name, image or likeness, and UGA has no plans to make them wait. It will be immediate. More coming in a story.

How can that be constitutional?

Good call by UGA. That being made legal at all is insane.

People who are all for socialism will line up on twitter to complain about this and will not see the hypocrisy at all. It will be beautiful

The University can take 75% of a player's endorsements? How is that going to go over with the football guys?

I’m old school, but a free college education, food, and a place to live for 4 years seems like a good enough deal already

As well as a post-grad network of connections you can fall back on when you fall in life. UGA (and others I presume) have programs that keep up with players for decades after football is over, helping them out and whatnot.

They still have to pay taxes.

I haven’t really made up my mind on how I feel about players being compensated monetarily, but some of these people pretending college football players are basically slave labor are literal retards.
These guys have a higher quality of life than probably 98% of the rest of the general student population. They eat the best food, stay in the nicest dorms or apartments, have access to the best gym(s) and recreation, get a financial spending stipend, and get a $100K+ education for free. They also have better network connections when they leave than anyone else on campus.
Pay them if we must, but let’s not pretend they’re broke and helpless.

Socialism for 500, Alex. But if I give the correct answer I we all receive the same points.

Now imagine that you have a family across the country that is struggling to get by and even though you are making a fortune for your university, you don't make anything to send back home. And you can't exactly just go get a job and send money back.
