Settling the Vandy Baseball Scholarship Controversy

Cost of attendance per Collegecalc.org is at the bottom of this post. The long and short of it is, even with Vandy granting money to all students (including athletes), a 60% "need based scholarship" is only $500 cheaper than Alabama without scholarship. I'll assume that everyone receives a waiver on the non-resident fee.
I won't apologize for Vandy having the best degree, having money to help kids pay for college, or being in the best city.
In-State
Vandy $58,442
Bama $23,806
AUB $22,604
UT $21,900
UK $21,438
USC $20,719
UGA $20,424
LSU $20,177
Mizzou $19,647
Ark $18,240
TAMU $18,202
OM $17,526
UF $16,863
MSU $16,619
Non-Resident
Vandy $58,442
UT $40,090
AUB $39,116
UGA $38,634
USC $38,431
Bama $38,306
UF $38,080
LSU $37,895
TAMU $34,822
Mizzou $33,996
UK $32,520
Ark $29,496
OM $28,494
MSU $26,807

Andy only does 60% needs based? Ivy League and Duke do 100%.
Glad to see Vandy doing something. I was poor as dirt growing up, really wanted to go to Vandy but had no chance because of the expense.

They'll go higher than 60% if you demonstrate need. I used the number to show that you could cut more than half the price off of Vandy and still pay the same as Alabama.
Furthermore, Vandy has a tendency to draw elite Northeast talent where the kids are used to paying sky high tuition for Prep schools.

Every school has money to give to kids. Private schools have to give away tons of money otherwise attendance would be extremely low.

This whole baseball scholly thing needs to be looked at ASAP. Football did the same in the 70's and quickly capped. Baseball should be 15 scholly deal across the board for every member school. You can have no more than 15 scholarships period. Do like football. You can have them on academic, lottery, needs based, whatever but you can have no more than 85. Same with baseball. Split them up how you want but you get 15 and no more. This is ne of the greatest inequalities in college sports that never gets discussed because most states are lotto states and dont want to discuss or bring attention to this issue. College baseball is growing and i think it was just ignored for many years but as it grows more popular with TV and revenue it will become an issue in the near future.

We do have the only SEC national title in a "Big 3" sport since UK basketball in 2012....

Wow! UT doesn't like non-residents very much.

Needs to be about 25, not 15

Quick math question for the Vandy fans... what's 60 + 33?
Pretty sure it's 93. Otherwise known as the total amount of cost of attendance covered for a scholarship baseball player that gets the minimum baseball scholarship allowed (33%) and the 60% that all Vandy students get.
Now, I'm no math whiz but I'm pretty sure that $58,442 X (1 - 0.93) = $4,090.94... that's also known as what a Vanderbilt baseball player would be asked to pay out of pocket after baseball scholarship and other funds provided by the university.

This isn't actual. He used the 60% as an example. Each Vandy student can receive need-based aid. Some receive none.

Somewhat skewed. UT has some tuition reciprocity agreements where border state residents may be able to get in state tuition. With the Hope Scholarship...UT is having to become more selective on the students they accept. They are being inundated by in-state applicants with Hope Scholarship Money.
For incoming Freshmen (over the last 10 years), the average ACT score has increased by 3.4 points, the average SAT score has jumped by 50 points and the average GPA has increased by .57 points.
