Mississippi State's Rickea Jackson in the portal. Previously top program has become a shite show since losing its coach. Leaving in the middle of the season is pretty rough.

Jackson to leave MSU

We went from two final four appearances in a row to being absolutely awful... hey, wait a minute, that reminds me of another school in another sport. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Is yet another problem with the transfer portal horseshite.

Cut and run in the middle of the season? I'm not sure I'd even persue a player who does that.

I don’t have a problem with this. She’s an elite player who wants to play for a championship. The formerly elite program she was recruited to has fallen apart. She obviously wants to play elsewhere. She should do what’s right for her.

Coaches cut and run all the time.

I get that but it's a poor look to announce this mid-season. I'm assuming she is done playing for MSU with this announcement? That's flat out quitting on your team. I'm assuming she can't start playing for another team until next season anyway so why?

Doesn’t State have three coaches in as many seasons?

We all give something like 2 weeks notice before resigning a job. What’s so different about athletes? “Boss, I’m looking at other jobs right now. Here’s my 2 months notice. Just wanted to give you sufficient notice so you can be finding my replacement. Until then, I’ll do my best for your team.”

If you never played team sports, you probably just aren't going to get it. That's fine.

Also who is she going to be playing for in two weeks?

It’s meant as a literal 2 weeks. But if she transferred later on, she would be denying MSU the chance to recruit or draw in their own replacement through the transfer portal, leaving them high and dry for next season. It’s about giving sufficient notice.

If she’s going to transfer, now is just as good a time as any to let the team know.

Edit: My guess is that unless Mississippi State is crazy, they’re going to let her play out the season. As the leading conference scorer, she’s got a shite ton of leverage.

Hell, we have perennial free agency without binding contracts now. Treat as a trade deadline and let her pick a new team and get playing.

Ouch.

That one would sting. Someone is going to get a heck of a player. Things have really gone off the rails with that program.

Which can happen. From Nutt (respectable at least) and Petrino we went to J.L. Smith, Bert, and Chad. It can be a mighty long fall when you go off that cliff.
