Hello again SECR! We are back for another year of the SECR Power Rankings. The rankings are formulated weekly by a group of anonymous ranters representing every team in the SEC. Apart from anonymity, there are rules in place to prevent biased and inaccurate rankings. Rankings are formulated beyond W/L and take into account SoS among others.

Preseason 2019 Rankings

As usual, the preseason rankings are all over the place. Alabama rightfully holds the top spot unanimously, while UGA commands second, and LSU by a smaller margin 3rd. After the top, things get dicey, with a split of Ole Miss, Vandy, and Arkansas rounding out the bottom three.

Here are a few tidbits to the question "How did your team do? What's coming up next?"

quote:

If UF could just focus on Miami and stop strangling, beating, or otherwise harassing women, I like their chances of starting the season with a big win over a Miami team going through a transition. UF has a lot of things going for them, a great WR corp, strong RBs, an athletic and veteran QB, a solid front 7, and elite defensive backs. That being said, they have serious depth issues in the secondary and at OL. As long as they avoid injuries at those key positions, UF is poised to challenge for the SEC east in 2019.

quote:

After talks of the 2018 edition of the Crimson Tide being the greatest team ever, they came up short in the National Championship game, being routed by Clemson. While the college football world was shocked to see Alabama lose by such a margin, Nick Saban has used the failure as a teaching tool to prepare what may be his most talented team yet. They open with Duke, but on August 31st, the devil wears Crimson.

quote:

LSU exceeded expectations last season and beat the defending national champions in a NY6 bowl. Now that I got that away, LSU has a tough schedule but they finally appear to have the team and the offense to do it. If Brady gets Burrow clicking, and LSU can beat Texas and/or Bama, they have a good shot to run the rest of the table and make it to the CFP.

quote:

Vandy - everyone says we are going to fall off and be pretty bad this year. We lost a lot of talent and experience to graduation, but our coach has also proven a lot. We have had modest success when most did not think it could or would happen, so we shall see. RIGHT NOW, we are ALL tied for 1st place!

My personal favorites for unknown teams:

I know it's a new season, but until Arkansas wins a SEC game, or shows otherwise, we should be in last place. Even Vandy beat us last year.

After you win the CFP
...Or make the CFP
...Or win the SECCG
...Or win the SECW and make the SECCG

Do those a few times and you can make the cut I assume

A&M seems okay.

Preseason doesn't mean much and we have a few spots like RB that will have new people but I think it's fair to have high expectations.

Kentucky's disrespect should be motivation. We'll see.

10 is not disrespectful for Kentucky. I could maybe see an argument to be above South Carolina, but 9-10 is right where UK should be.

For those of you who disagree, here is the alphabetical list. How would you rank them going into 2019?

Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
LSU
Mississippi
Mississippi State
Missouri
South Carolina,
Tennessee
Texas A&M
Vanderbilt

How I'd rank them:

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. LSU
4. Florida
5. Missouri
6. Mississippi State
7. Kentucky
8. Texas A&M
9. South Carolina
10. Auburn
11. Vanderbilt
12. Tennessee
13. Ole Miss
14. Arkansas

These are just the teams as they stand today. A few comments as they will be asked: Vanderbilt has proven itself not to be the worst team in their state, and they certainly aren't the worst team in the SEC. Too much stock is being put into Texas A&M and Auburn. As for Auburn everyone is saying Gus is being fired yet having them 4th or whatever. I'm having them 10th because that's how good they are rn with their freshman QB. I do agree that Missouri is the oddball here and I could see them as low as 11 here if the KB era flops. I liked what I saw from him last year at A&M is the only reason why I'm giving them credit. As far as MSU goes I'm going in with the idea they will once again have a top 20 defense, and a much better QB with better WRs like Zuber. Since he just won the job today as a late grad transfer, that tells me what I need to know about him.

At the end of the season I expect these coaches fired:
Matt Luke
Gus Malzahn

Muschamp is 50/50 if they really flop this year but I don't think they'll be that bad.

I expect Alabama to go undefeated this season and win another national championship (yes boring but give me an SEC team that beats them).

That is a safe prediction until someone from the SEC beats them

All I can remember is the beat down arse whipping Clemson laid on Bama. I'm surprised Saban didn't retire.
