The real National Championship was the SEC Championship...Georgia-Alabama was a classic...

Alabama-Notre Dame was just embarrassing...more proof the BCS is baloney and swiss cheese

They played a name schedule.

Too bad the only names on that schedule that were worth a shite were Stanford and Oklahoma.

Let's look, shall we?

Notre Dame played:

Navy (8-5): Irish's peak offensive output

Purdue (6-7): Purdue only allowed 21 points or less 3 times. One of those was to Notre Dame

Michigan State (7-6): Decent win

Michigan (8-5): Same Michigan team that got crushed by Alabama, then Clowneyed in the Outback Bowl.

Miami (7-5): Same Miami team that took themselves out of bowl contention and that Kansas State completely smashed

Stanford (12-2): Legit win

BYU (8-5): HORRIBLE offense. Worse than Notre Dame's

Oklahoma (10-3): Johnny Manziel tore them apart.

Pittsburgh (6-7): Needed a horrible call (had 2 players wearing the same jersey on the field when Pitt missed the Field Goal in OT #2. That's a 15-yard penalty)

Boston College (2-10): Only three teams scored 21 or less on BC. Notre Dame was one of them.

Wake Forest (5-7): Irish's most complete game.

USC (7-6): Without Barkley, Notre Dame still almost lost.

There's a conference full of teams with those kind of records...it's called the BIG 12.

Pretty much agree with this. Not sure about Ole Miss though.

yes Michigan got crushed by Bama, but was about a minute from beating South Carolina. Which is why I said South Carolina wasn't a guarantee over ND

ND beat them on the road by 3 scores. I don't think UF or LSU do the same.

My point was I'm not sure if LSU/USC/UF handily beat ND. I think A&M/UGA/Bama likely do because they can score some points.

I think LSU/USC/UF/ND are toss up games

I don't see how LSU doesn't crush ND. No way ND score more than 10 on them. LSU's running game would do just as well as Bama's did, which would give Mett ample space to throw.

Pitt RB Ray Graham missed the Compass Bowl, he had over 170 yards against ND.

We would've still crushed Pitt

Also I laughed when I saw who posted this.

I think Ole Miss would have kept it close, but lost...just like they did to all the halfway decent teams they played last year. However, if they had gotten to win the NCG it sure would have saved their boosters a ton of money paying for recruits!

LSU can't score against good Ds. They put up 12 against Auburn, 20 against Arky, and 24 in their bowl game. I think LSU can hold them down on defense, but I'm not sure they score more than 17 themselves.

ND's D was good against some ok offenses before the NCG. They held Michigan to 6, Miami to 3, Stanford to 13, OU to 13. I'm not saying any of those teams were amazing offensively, but they also weren't awful

Michigan was far from having a good offense.

Scoring offenses Notre Dame faced:

12 - Alabama
15 - Oklahoma
40 - USC
49 - Miami
57 - Michigan
64 - BYU
64 - Purdue
70 - Stanford
74 - Pittsburgh
82 - Navy
108 - Michigan State
109 - Boston College
114 - Wake Forest

LSU's scoring offense was 58th, just below Michigan.

Let's look at the SEC scoring offenses again:

4 - Texas A&M
12 - Alabama
19 - Georgia
22 - Tennessee
44 - South Carolina
47 - Ole Miss
55 - Vanderbilt
58 - LSU
60 - Mississippi State
76 - Florida
80 - Missouri
89 - Arkansas
112 - Auburn
114 - Kentucky

Couldn't you replace LSU with Michigan in that sentence? I mean they were basically exactly the same last year offensively

All I'm saying is that ND had some wins under their belt against teams with better offenses than LSU

Three to be exact.

ND won 4 of those games, LSU was 58 so behind Michigan (although of course tied basically)

I just don't think LSU rolls over ND with their offensive problems. Michigan scored 6, lets give LSU 13-17, do they win if they score 13-17 points?

You keep saying this as if this means anything. Transitive property means nothing in sports. ND had come off a huge road win at top-10 Oklahoma the week before, you don't think a letdown was possible? Teams match up differently against different opponents. Teams don't play their A-game every week. It's sports. Have you ever watched (or played)? You're not always at your best for a variety of reasons.

ND was 12-0 against a good (not great) schedule. Yet OLE FRICKIN MISS would beat them? Yes in a one-game scenario, it's certainly possible. That's why they play the game. Auburn almost beat LSU this year, after all. Stanford beat USC in 07. App State beat Michigan, etc. So yes, theoretically in one game, they could beat ND. So could any SEC team last year. They would not win a seven-game series. The only teams I know would beat ND in a seven-game series from the SEC are Bama and A&M. Probably UGA, too, but again, don't know. UF? LSU? USC? Maybe, maybe not. Too difficult to say.

Michigan was less than a minute from beating South Carolina and ND beat Michigan. South Carolina beat UGA by 28 points. Therefore, I assume you agree ND would destroy UGA. Two can play this game...

Good thing Michigan and LSU played against the same caliber defenses all year, that way we can accurately compare their offenses.

Oh wait, one of them played against Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina, and the other didn't.

Well Michigan did play SC, but the point still standsd.
