And no, I’m not talking about guys who had really bad injuries or got kicked off the team. I mean guys that simply weren’t all that good after their freshmen year.

I know it doesn't really fit this thread, but it is interesting that Bart Starr peaked in college in his sophmore year.
As for Whitworth,From 1955 to 1957, he coached at Alabama, where he posted a 4–24–2 record, the worst record for a non-interim coach in school history.
