How would they determine who plays in SECCG?

would there be a conference title game? if so, why?

Yes, pitting the two teams with the best records (like in the Big 12)

As stated above, because not everyone can play everyone (the SEC is too large for that). 2020 will likely be the closest post-expansion anyone will get to playing every SEC team.

I'll repeat my stance that this format WILL NOT WORK!!!

There are TOO MANY TEAMS which will almost guarantee some NEW tie-breakers needed based on lack of common opponents.

Not to mention the H/A imbalance.

Conference title game would between the top 2 teams with the best records. Meaning a #3 team like LSU wouldn’t play for the SEC Championship.
The Playoff committee values Conference Championship games. Just look at the Big12 and why they added it back. Big 12 done away with the conference championship game in 2010. When the playoffs started they found out the committee valued a conference championship game over an extra conference game in season. So the Big12 added the game back in 2017.

I like the format but I'd honestly prefer just going back to co-champions in event of tie. SECCG already risks SEC teams not getting into CFP and this will be even more true with an 8 team playoff.

Of course, that will never happen

I'm not even going to try to do the harder math; this seems ripe for multiple ties.

Glad to have another with the same thinking.

And how will they decide who plays who?

I predict that this is the end of the championship game. They will crown a regular season champion and shoot to get as many teams as possible in the playoff.

Should be Mississippi State. They're only 85 miles down the road and we've played them more than any other league opponent.

The top 2 teams with the highest conference winning percentage. Just look at how the big12 does it now.

So what happens when there are multiple teams with the same record? Because that will happen.

Wrong! The Playoff Committee values Conference Championship Games over regular season Champs. Just look at the Big12. The Big12 only went back to the Conference Championship Game in 2017 because they didn’t have a chance to get a team in over a team that played the extra game.

Common Opponent, or points scored, kinda like hockey and soccer does to determine games that end in ties when it comes to post season play.

Yes/No

Similar idea. BUT with pods, you can keep more important games & pods WOULD HAVE THE SAME OPPONENTS (ex. AB & CD, AC & BD, AD & BC). The 16 team "group" format is ALWAYS going to have someone calling unfair scheduling!

Sankey knows something we don’t… I wouldn’t be surprised to see the SECCG go away when they start including 12 teams in the CFP.

It just doesn’t make sense in that scenario, and the decision to move to a scheduling format that would potentially leave multiple teams tied for a league championship backs that up.

There are 4 schools who will vote against that.

The B12 DOESN'T have (soon to be) 16 teams with TONS of historical "must be played" games.
