The opening weekend of SEC play is now in the books.
Friday matches:
Texas A&M 7, Auburn 0 - easy win for the Aggies. Clean sweep with no sets won for Auburn.
Georgia 4, Tennessee 2 - Critical win for Georgia to get them into the rankings
Miss State 7, Vanderbilt 0 - Closer than the score but the result was never in doubt
Arkansas 5, South Carolina 2 - SC dominated at 1 and 2 but Arkansas's depth was too strong 3-6 as they swept the sets on the bottom courts
Alabama 5, LSU 2 - Solid win for Bama, winning at 1,2,5 and 6
Kentucky 4, Ole Miss 3 - Big drama in this match. At 3-3 it came down to court 2 between Wallart (UK) and Kraljevic (Ole Miss). Wallart saved 3 match points at 5-6 15-40 and then won the 3rd set tiebreaker 7-2 to clinch the upset win for the Cats. There was some drama with the crowd too apparently getting involved with the Kentucky player.
Sunday matches:
Miss State 7, Kentucky 0 - Beatdown for MSU to cap off an impressive weekend
Vanderbilt 4, Ole Miss 0 - Not a good showing from the Rebs following the heartbreaker on Friday. They should not be getting beat this easily by Vandy.
LSU 5, Auburn 2 - Auburn is just a notch below the rest of the SEC
Florida 6, Arkansas 1 - Strong win at 1 for Mesquida for Arkansas but Florida dominated on every other court.
Texas A&M 4, Alabama 3 - This was another dramatic one. Just like Ole Miss/UK, it came down to court 2 tied 3-3. Hady Habib of A&M saved 3 match points against Edson Ortiz of Bama and then won the 3rd set breaker 7-2 to give A&M the much needed ranking boosting win.
Non conference Sunday:
Texas 4, Georgia 2 - Close loss for UGA against the #3 team in the country. They played singles 1st due to weather and UGA just barely missed out on sending the match to a deciding doubles point.

Damn, Auburn is bad at this too?

Since Chadwick retired Ole Miss has fallen off the map. Gotta do something to get it back

Yep. Really inconsistent team. A far cry from the top 5 team in 2009 with NCAA champion Devin Britton.

Wasn't Auburn top 20 a year or two ago?
Posted on 3/5/19 at 9:07 pm to JamalSanders
They used to be top 20 in the early 2010s but its been a bit longer than that. The last time they made the NCAA tournament was 2015. This is the 2nd season for new coach Bobby Reynolds who is going through a tough rebuild since he is completely changing the recruiting pipeline.

Isn't there an award your school can get for being awful in the most athletic programs in one season? I think Auburn is a front-runner...
