Here's the deal with McClendon....

Maybe he is and maybe he ain't gonna be the best game-day play caller and x's o's guy, but he's competent enough. What he IS is an elite recruiter that can get talent on the roster like nobody else on the list.

The game-day play calling shite is an acquired skill he will develop, that can be improved. What South Carolina gets right now is an immediate recruiting bump, something that is a pre-requisite to excellent offense.

He can recruit defensive players too.

I'm so happy for McClendon for this, and so happy to see South Carolina take a "chance" on him.

Yes he is a goon whisperer but that doesn’t translate to calling plays or scheming for a defense.

He’ll likely be alright though

Why would they receive a recruiting bump if he was already recruiting for USCe?

Because now he is the OC, not a fake Co-OC position coach. And he's black.

BMac and TRob

I'm excited about the McClendon/Dan Werner duo

I would’ve been ok with hiring Werner as OC. Honestly.

In their bowl game BMac took what Roper had, threw out a few plays, tweaked several plays, then called a good, basic game. Got the win, too.
If the SC fans will give him a couple of years to work, then they will see if he will work out. Just remember, if you crap on him early, you'll have Muschamp running the offense. Ask Florida how that worked out.

I need to know how much Helton has called plays first. Did he ever call them or was it all his brother and Tee at USC and Brohm at WKU?

I don't know. I like the style of offense he is bringing, but he is a wildcard atp. Maybe the only one on the staff. Although I have heard mixed reviews on Will Friend.

Not pending.

Hevesy and Gonzalez are splitting the duties because Dan calls the plays so don't need a true OC.

Will Friend is legit but it might not show the first year.

Mullen is the OC. Just guessing, based off of their time at MSU, that Hev is the Running game coordinator while Gonzo is the Passing game coordinator. Those titles are nothing more than words that get Mullen's buddies higher salaries. Hev is an excellent OL coach, but a horrendous, and I mean absolutely awful, recruiter. Gonzo is nothing more than Mullen's personal Ego pumper. It's Mullen's offense and everyone else is just living in it.

The easy answer to the OP's question is Florida's OC, Dan Mullen.

I was ecstatic when I found out we hired him. Friend's lines have had the best OL holes I've seen in AGES. They're from another era of football entirely.

Friend will be Bama's OC in the next 3-5 years. Dude is legit and will be a HC one day.
