They don't compare.
At least Lyle could recruit and win a few bowl games.
Doofus was horrible beyond belief. He might be the worst coach in SEC history.

It's your choice of awful.
Dooley who was lazy (like Paul Railton, who was prosecuted, fined, and ordered not to drive for six months, after he was seen “walking” his dog by driving slowly along with the leash held out the car window) , especially when he started his temper tantrum phase.
Or Butch who was nothing more than a glorified pitch man like Phil Swift. My petty bitterness over Lyle kneeling like Neyland for the photo opportunity is just flat out unforgivable and gives Lyle the edge.

Mike Archer got canned for Curley Hallman at LSU after the 1990 season. True story.

After two seasons:
Kevin Sumlin 20-6
Jimbo Fisher 17-9
That's hardly fair. By the "first X seasons" logic, then if we say 2 OR 3 seasons, Miles was replaced by a worse coach (Orgeron)
Miles' first three seasons: 34-6
Orgeron's first three seasons: 25-9
We all know LSU's hire of Orgeron paid off though.

Gus = a worse Sumlin
The biggest difference is that Auburn fans can hang their hat on Gus "My Losing Record vs Saban is not as bad as everyone else's losing record to Saban" Malzahn.
Considering the level of conspiracy theory that goes on at Auburn, it wouldn't surprise me if most of their fans think Alabama threw that game last year to keep Gus employed a few more seasons.

Miles won a championship at LSU and got to another one.
He wasnt a bad coach, he just refused to adapt to the times.

Oh, I'm not arguing that Miles being replaced by Orgeron was a bad thing. I'm just saying that using a limited sample size in the argument is not effective; especially when doing so can make Orgeron look like a bad hire when he clearly wasn't.
Or maybe he is. We won't know. After 2019 he might run off a string of 8 win seasons and get fired. Maybe he'll turn into a post-Cam Gene Chizik. I think the odds are insanely low, but you never know.

Mike Archer for Curly Hallman.

Truth.
I do think LSU is an easier place to win than most if you can adapt to change and can recruit.
Miles was basically a .500 coach outside of his time at LSU and we've seen what O did at Ole Miss.

Gene Stallings > Mike Dubose

That's asinine. Typical Bama fan thinking that Saban threw that game rather than Gus shredding that awful defense.

We DON'T think that.
I'm saying it wouldn't surprise me if AUBURN fans think that.
Sweet Lord have mercy. Reading comprehension, look it up.

2012 A&M played a total of 7 FBS teams that ended the season with 7 or more wins, INCLUDING their bowl opponent. They finished 5-2 in those games. (forgot that shitshow of an SMU team managed 7 wins)
Edited and still wrong - even after getting the answers to the test.

Neither do we. We are a paranoid bunch but that's beyond the pale. no SEC coach is throwing a game to extend another coach, especially one with a huge buyout like Gus.

I'm sure LSU fans felt differently about Miles coming off of that championship win than they did when he got fired.
They did.
There were many people on this board touting Miles as superior to Saban when Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa. This view was solidified after the '07 season. I was merely a spectator at the time, but I can't tell you how many people were touting Les's 34-6 record from 2005-07.
As late as 2012 you still had some LSU fans believing Miles was either equal or superior in coaching ability to Nick Saban.

To be fair, it was pretty evenly matched at the time.
Then Saban changed with the times and Miles didnt and the rest is history.

Nah.
A&M's games played vs teams that finished ranked
2012-2013: 10 (4-6 record)
2018-2019: 9 (2-7 record)
That's not how you measure SoS.
A&M wasn't even playing P5 OOC teams when Sumlin was HC. Manziel racked up the majority of his big stats against really terrible teams.

That # may be a bit high, but you are correct. Coach O has been the biggest turnaround, best comeback Coaching story in a long time. It is a Disney movie waiting to be written.
Roll the question back a few more years and Cutcliffe replaced by Coach O at Ole Miss fits the topic.
Now, O is trending like another Dabo-like player's coach (yet, with much less aww shucks, perpetual underdog BS). That, and his adapted style of offense, will continue to kill on the recruiting trail. He was already a top recruiter, so times are looking good if he can sustain a high level (10+ wins) of success.

Ole Miss had to vacate all 7 wins of their 2012 season. Therefore they officially went 0-6.
