It kept UGA out of the playoffs this year.
Keep Auburn out of the playoffs last year.
The game was for the BCS. It use to help elevate a team into the final 2. Now that we can get 2-4 teams in, it’s hurting.

No it doesnt. They just need to expand to an 8 team playoff. All power 5 conference champions and 3 at large.

I disagree, but if you did you would absolutely need to go to 9 conference games. Otherwise the resume for the top conference teams is gonna look pretty thin compared to others

Ah yes, hence the reason it was founded well before the BCS in 1992. The reason the SEC Championship Game exists is the same reason anything exists, for the money. It's not complicated, it's not about finding "best teams," it's about money. It's always about money.

Just do what Clemson did..Beat Alabama and you're in. It has happened

I don't think that's necessarily true. The committee could put Georgia at 4 knowing that they were going to play #1 Alabama thinking if they win they're in, if they lose they're out. With no SEC championship game I think they would have put OU ahead of Georgia in the week 14 poll and just let OU play for the 4 spot. Pure speculation, but I still don't think the championship game hurt them.

No, the other conferences just need to stop having shitty divisions.
Three CGs had teams with 3+ losses, one with 5 losses if memory serves.
Alabama/Georgia was the only one where both teams were even remotely in consideration for the playoffs. The ACC, B1G and PAC12 games were jokes.

I think you do away with all the conference championship games. Select the best 8 teams at the end of the regular season.
Play the first round the Saturday the conference championships are played in early December at the home fields of the highest 4 seeds.
Continue the subsequent rounds as we do in the 4 team playoff.
The problem is that the conferences won't want to give up the money for the championship games.

The timing of the games need to move.
Current
December 1 (SEC CHAMPIONSHIP)
December 29 (Semi-Finals)
January 7 (Championship Game)
Change to
December 8 (Power 5 Championships)
December 22 (Semi-Final Games)
January 7 Championship Game
This allows for two weeks between games, makes it easier to travel.

No, contract to 4 power conferences. Each conference championship game is the first game of an 8 team playoff

Nope, probably the single worst proposed change to the post-season that i've ever heard. Leave this kind of thinking up to the true college football fans, the ones that understand how things work.
