I work with a bunch of their Alumni, all very good people, can’t say enough about them.
I just hate their fan base that didn’t go there.
Reminds me of Bama or any glory chasing/sidewalk fans.
Also a bit salty because when I was in school we weren’t good at basketball (still aren’t today) and we had kids around campus that would jump ship during basketball season and say they pulled for Duke or UNC.
Never understood pulling for a school you never went to, especially when you went to another one.

I know your Cock buddies in Columbia have a weird off campus football stadium too. What's the deal?
Never ask a taterhead to answer a historical question about the Gamecocks if you want an accurate answer.
1. Williams-Brice will soon be part of campus as we now own 80% of the property between main campus and the old Freightliner prooerty ... which we just aquired. The old mill village of Olympia is now almost entirely owned by USC.
2. The reason our football stadium is where it is, is because 100 years ago our stadium was on campus but we needed the property for classrooms and dorms as we were expanding. So the plan was put in place to build a new stadium, by the 30s, on state fairgrounds property and Carolina Stadium was built ... I think in '34. It wasn't renamed and expanded until the early 70s when the Williams-Brice family donated $10 million to both Clemson and SC and Paul Dietzel managed to appropriate our W-B money to expand and upgrade the stadium.
Within 25 years it will be completely surrounded by University owned property with the exception of the fairgrounds to the north which has a 100 year lease for parking privleges.

[quote]I've been in Cameron Indoor when it was empty. Its a tiny old POS.
Spot on....I've been in there several times and it's a dump. The first time about 12 years ago we visited my wife's brother and family who lives about a mile from Duke campus....I drove over to the campus which was my first time on the Duke campus at that time.....I drove around the campus 2 trips looking for Cameron Indoor. I had in my mind that it would be some mecca shrine...Finally I stopped some guy walking down the street and asked him where it was....he pointed across the street at a building that looked like a old church building and said it's in there. I said you got to be shitting me.....I parked and went in like I owned the place...walked right onto the playing floor...stood there and thought to myself, I've seen better high school gyms. I was shocked.

If you compare it to NBA arenas and high-end college arena then it won't compare well. It is a relic at this point, but that is what makes it special.

They’ve made some renovations to Cameron Indoor including a beautiful museum as you enter. It’s not a dump but it is compact.
I’ve been to plenty of games at Cameron. It’s unbelievable - especially during the big games. Should be on everyone’s bucket list that loves sports.

this doesn't make any sense if you aren't a Duke fan.

From the looks of that picture I could just go to an SMU game and save the travel expense, unless SMU has changed in the last 20 years.
And figuring out what duke could fill is easy - how big is their season ticket waiting list
Hated them before but what they did in the lacrosse case sealed it, wonder whatever happened to that a-hole athletic director, THAT was the tyranny you get with unfettered sjw shite

The old Reynolds Coliseum was my favorite ACC basketball venue. A true Tobacco Road gem.
Wow, that looks like a repurposed steel mill or something. Pretty cool.

If Duke had 30K students I’d say maybe, but it isn’t. UK doesn’t average that many and it’s twice the size of Duke.

could Duke really have 20-30k and fill it up every game?
growing up in NC, they have a bigger fanbase than Wake Forest and Wake's arena seats close to 20 thousand. To be fair, Wake rarely fills it up unless they're really good but Duke has been much better over the years so yeah I think they could fill it
they, like UNC, have plenty of fans who never had the grades or money to go there

they still do this unfortunately

Mike Patrick on his farewell tour just said Duke could build a 30k arena and fill it up
No, they could not.
I have been to Cameron Indoor for both M and W and it full of idiots who are just there to get on TV. Say what you will about UNC, IU, and KU but the fans inside their own venue can actually discuss the game of basketball. Duke does not have these fans.

Besides being a bunch of fricking pricks, what's their fan base like?
They do not travel.
