SEC Basketball Arenas Fan Attendance Compared to Duke

Mike Patrick on his farewell tour just said Duke could build a 30k arena and fill it up, but they'll never do it because Cameron Indoor is special or some bullshite like that.
My question is, could Duke really have 20-30k and fill it up every game? Besides being a bunch of fricking pricks, what's their fan base like? Maybe South Carolina posters would know best?
North Carolina borders SEC States and I don't want to post on the MSB with a bunch of Duke Lovers.

I wouldn't think they would have a fan base like Arkansas or UK that could fill up 20k+ every time out. Frick Duke

They are a small school with a national alumni base. I'm sure they have more alums in the Triangle and Charlotte than other places, but I doubt they would pack out a 30K arena for Tuesday night games against Miami.
They could certainly have a bigger arena than Cameron Indoor and fill it, though. Cameron Indoor seats 9,314. They'd probably have consistent sellouts at 10-11K (Ole Miss/Auburn size).
I don't think they consistently sell out Coleman Coliseum or the PMAC, and they certainly wouldn't at Thompson Boling or Rupp.

Kentucky averaged 23k last year.
No way Duke can get another 7k more.
Arkansas averaged around 15k last year.

I've been in Cameron Indoor when it was empty. Its a tiny old POS. The only thing special about it is the teams that have played in it.
Most high schools built this century probably have a nicer gym. Because that's what Cameron Indoor really is. I wouldn't describe it as an arena, I would say its a gym.

In comparison to Syracuse who plays in the carrier dome, they averaged 21k.

They have truckloads of front running sidewalk fans. But no they couldn't fill a 30k seat arena. frick UNC and Duke.

Good point with the national alumni base.
They have so many bandwagon fans. I know a guy in BR, I think he's been to Cameron Indoor one time, in the summer, not even for a game. I always enjoy Duke getting their arse beat in the Tournament, the earlier, the better. And when an SEC team does it like S. Car last year..ever sweeter.

Duke doesn't have the fan base to fill an arena near that size. Their fan base is a joke.

I live 20 minutes from the NC border, with the closest major town being Whiteville. When you cross the state line where I'm at, you begin seeing NC State and East Carolina tags and flags. There is a sizeable UNC contingent but almost zero Duke presence, along with a sizeable USC and Clemson contingent closer to Richmond and Scotland Counties.
NC natives all view Duke as a foreign Yankee enclave within a Southern state. The only thing close to it in the SEC would be how LSU people view Tulane, given the latter's sizeable population of Yankee students.
As for the Gamecock fanbase, our hatred of Duke is actually less than our hatred of UNC. The NC schools, primarily UNC, ran the conference back in the late 1960's and treated us and Clemson like stepchildren. We bolted because of it, but the hatred hasn't stopped. I can't stand UNC or Duke, but NC State, Wake Forest and ECU all are good people imo.

Having been to NC a good bit, it's surprising to compare the number of UNC fans to Duke fans.
Probably 10-1.
Probably 10-1.

Duke is a little bit different from UNC fans in NC. UNC alumni paid for and built Dean Center to honor Dean Smith, when UNC was perfectly happy with Carmicheal and didn't even ask for it. So they've had two basketball arenas ever since, which is actually a bit of an annoyance for the UNC Ath. Dept. to maintain, but no matter.
Duke will one day be forced to build another basketball arena, and when that happens, I can see them perhaps upgrading to 12K-15K, but no more. The atmosphere in Cameron is as much as their tradition as anything else about their MBB program. They didn't even win their first title until into the 90s. With Duke its more about their image as an ivy league institution than being a big sports university, even as they win national titles.....

Chris Weber said on his recruiting visit they took him into Cameron and he said "is this a practice gym"

all good points. makes sense. I think it's the media attention BJ's and bandwagon fans, I've just always disliked Duke. Sure is good to come in here and bash Duke with you baws.

No.
The Pavilion at Ole Miss is a multi-purpose arena on the campus of the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. The $96.5 million multipurpose arena is home to the University of Mississippi Rebels men's and women's basketball teams, with seating for up to 9,500 people.

Duke had issues filling up that student section before the 90s. WHen K retires theyll have issues again.

I lived just outside of Asheville NC from 2001 to 2008. The Tar heels probably have as many fans as Duke, UNC and Wake combined state wide.

Too many large arenas in the area. North Carolina State has a large one that fills over 20k along with UNC in the Triangle. And I know NC State doesn't fill up many.
