Alabama really does live and die by the three

Sure, but the idea is the value of every 3PT is higher than the value of every long 2PT shot when you take into account the difference in difficulty of the two shots. A 3PT shot is worth 50% more than a 2PT shot, so if you are going to shoot mid-range jumpers you better shoot them at an insanely high rate to make up for the difference in points.
Ideally our % of shots at the rim would be higher, but this team doesn't have a lot of great finishers so we've had to adjust to more outside shots.

% of total shots:
Alabama
42.3% Dunks/Close 2's
15.1% Mid-range 2's
49% 3's
106%...
Close 2' contain dunks, so the 6% dunks needs to be removed from the 'close 2' category. So it would be 35.9 Close 2's/Dunks, not 42%

I actually do like the way Alabama plays, I really want Wade to try and get Cam Thomas some good 3 point shots, instead of just chucking them up with no plan

Yea - not sure. They may count some shots in multiple categories?

Yea I mean it still all comes down to whether the shots you take are good shots in rhythm. The general ethos of the offense is important, but if you are just chucking up bad shots (either from 3 or at the rim) then you aren't really accomplishing anything.

Yeah, close 2's contain dunks, so while the are separate columns, dunks also reside in the close 2 column.

Ah - that makes sense. I combined them figuring they were separate.

And the best defense Nate Oats has ever coached.

Where does close end and mid-range begin? Because I struggle to see how roughly 1 in every 7 shots we take is a mid-range 2. Maybe 1 in every 20.

He doesn't define it, but my assumption would be anything outside of the key (the general mid-range definition). However, his could be more like anything outside of 3 feet or something, since the alternative is "Close Rim".
