In reality that reflects the general consensus about conference academics, IMO. Except for the one outlier in the 75th percentile, which reflects Alabama's shrewd ranking strategy of throwing money at top students (it's served them well even if it hasn't changed the overall perception ranking).
Missouri is surprising. SCAR surprising in a good way.

Most in Texas take & prep for the SAT.

I think most A&M students never take the ACT. At least I didn't and none of my friends did. The SAT is more popular in Texas. One thing I noticed upon joining the SEC is that it's usually the opposite for traditional SEC schools

ACT has grown a lot in popularity relative to the SAT. SAT used to be the big test everyone took when I was in HS but now it has really evened out with the ACT.

Close, but not quite. You're (roughly) comparing the 7,500th student at UGA to the 15000th student at A&M. Schools are somewhat penalized for being large. And that's fine, but it should be noted.
And, like others have said, some schools favor the SAT.
This is a year from 16-17, but it was easy to find:
quote:
Texas A&M (66,426)
Florida (49,827)
Alabama (37,665)
Georgia (36,574)
South Carolina (33,575)
Missouri (33,266)
LSU (31,414)
Kentucky (29,727)
Auburn (28,290)
Tennessee (28,052)
Arkansas (27,194)
Ole Miss (24,248)
Mississippi State (21,622)
Vanderbilt (11,834)

I work in higher education in Texas.
My institution (and colleagues) doesn’t even consider ACT scores.
That’s no slight, other than to say, I know of few (no?) kids who take it.
It’s very regional.
That said, it doesn’t surprise me at all that several SEC schools/students score well on it.
Our conference is comprised of some stellar member institutions.

only thing surprising here is South Carolina being that high and A&M being that low. Everyone below that is par for the course at a state school in the South.

My high school made us take both for whatever reason. I found the ACT to be more difficult personally, although I performed relatively about the same on both. I also took these tests before the writing section was added to the SAT so I'm not sure how that would affect my opinion.

Is it time to play the “let’s all act like we’re not the exact frickin same” game?
Excluding Vanderbilt of course.
Excluding Vanderbilt of course.

In Georgia it was almost all SAT but I had to (or was encouraged to) take the ACT specifically for Auburn. ACT was foreign to us then, and I know from Texans at that time it was pretty rare there as well.

Do you want to be lumped in with the Mississippi schools?
I sure as frick don't

I'm pretty sure you only need like a 16 to get into Ole Miss, or at least that's what it was recently.

But we're not. Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and A&M are clearly better academic institutions than Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, and State.

So Misery is not only bad in athletics, they suck in the classroom as well. Who's got time to practice or study when your protesting 24/7?

This is how I remember it as well. Heavy on the SAT, with the ACT as a requirement, but wasn't sure if it was an actual qualifying factor for admissions.
