Former Florida and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen is set to make his broadcast debut in Week 9 action as Virginia Tech takes on NC State.

Mullen will serve as the color analyst for the matchup that is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT on Oct. 27. The Wolf Pack come into the matchup as the No. 24-ranked team in the nation, looking to bounce back after falling 24-9 to the Syracuse Orange.

Virginia Tech also comes off of a loss after falling 20-14 to the Miami Hurricanes in its most recent outing.

what's a "color analyst"? is that the guys in the booth or the guy down on the field?

A color analyst is usually a former player or coach in the booth beside the play by play guy to add expert analysis of the game

It’s what Gary Danielson does. If you ask Gary, he will say it’s as easy as seeing a good play on the field, and then comparing them to his favorite college player, on a team that’s not even there, and then what his favorite player would have done differently.

Repeat that 20x a game. At least.

He'd do well back at Mississippi State.

Would rather listen to Beth Mowins for 4 hours.

Absolutely not. Dan Mullen is a weird dude but Beth Mowins is unwatchable. Most people I know have the tv on mute if Mowins is calling a game. Mullen may not do a great job but at least he's knowledgeable

I always thought he was weird when he was coaching but I heard an interview with him not too long ago and he seems like a cool guy. Just enjoying that buyout money and getting back in his kids' lives must be nice

He did manage to go 8 & 4 in a 10 game season (2020). So he fits the bill.
