As we've all seen lately: pods or divisions; divisions or pods?

- "You only play who's in your pod."
- "Traditional rivalry games will be played whenever."
- "You play the other 7 teams in your division & 2 rotating from the other group."

The only thing I will say is this: I DON'T think the SEC will get rid of annual rivalries to be played whenever. They will work out a plan to keep them yearly.

Keeping two divisions, shifting Mizzou, Bama, and Auburn only really effects one team's rivalries, LSU. Everything else would be preserved.

What about the history of MSU/Alabama?
What about LSU/Alabama?
LSU/Auburn?
LSU/Florida?

Won't have to complain about playing Florida every year.

Yes, but LSU, who really doesn't have any Historical rival game, but does have LSU/Florida, LSU/Bama, and LSU/Auburn that are all very heated games.

The rival games that get preserved are all the Historic ones if Bama and Auburn go East. Bama/Auburn, UGA/Auburn, Florida/UGA and TENN/Bama all are preserved.

Those are the 4 games that have been the non-negotiable ones since the SEC expanded in 1992.

LSU in the West with Ole Miss and Miss. State, both important and long-standing games and the 2 teams that LSU has played the most are not rivals like the 4 games above. Ole Miss and State, a real in-state rival game, gets preserved when they go West.

Other rival games that get preserved or renewed are

OU/Texas

and the Old SWC rival games:
Texas/Texas A&M
Texas/Arkansas
Texas A&M/Arkansas

LSU's games with Florida/Bama/Auburn will easily be done away with to get all these other games played, that is the reality of the situation and LSU fans need to get use to it.

Dont screw up everyone's schedule to keep AU-UGA and Ala-Tenn. Put those four together in the same pod.

I'm in favor of divisions and 9 games, with no permanent opponents. I honestly want 10 SEC games and only two non-conf. but I don't think that'll happen.

Ok, then Florida/UGA is not played, and that is one of those 4 non-negotiable historic SEC rivals games.

So that is not happening.

We can do without tbh. We used to play Vandy every year and don't- Miss State would just be like that

What about LSU/Alabama?

This is only considered by some to be a rivalry (mostly outsiders) because we've been the two best programs in the West for 15 years, and Nick Saban

LSU/Auburn?
LSU/Florida?

Can't answer for these two, but TD has always insisted LSU has no rivals

I see your point.....but just because they reshuffle the divisions doesn't necessarily mean those games WILL be played.

&, as I pointed out above as an example, what about the history of MSU/Ala. (105 games)?

Now you see the point of this thread - you try to fix 1 thing & something else is undone.

Bama Bird: There is not 1 or 2 teams that everyone from every generation of LSU fans will say is LSU's rival. It varies from Generation to Generation and has varied within generations.

I would say the Bama, Florida, Texas A&M right now are the 3 most heated games, in no particular order. There are some LSU fans who while they want to beat the heck out Bama, still have that luv affair with Nicky, there are some that hate him, and you get that type reaction.

There are lots who hate Florida, goes back to Spurrier running it up and more recently Jeremy Foley, etc, etc.

Some still have in for Auburn do to Tubby and the Cigar game and the Chop block on Glenn Dorsey.

Aggie and LSU, the two schools are close and lots of alums cross paths in the Houston area, etc.

So that is why there is no Florida/UGA or Bama/Auburn, Bama/TENN, UGA/Auburn

I have been on this earth for a while, saw my first LSU game in 1970 when Archie Manning played for Ole Miss.

So I have a good grasp of the history of not only LSU, but all the charter members of the SEC. So yes, UGA and Florida is one of those games that has to be played.

Basically LSU can make foes with anyone

I think LSU-Texas could be a great series and Texas A&M is basically already there. If I had to name a single most-protected game for LSU, it seems like it'd be Ole Miss over Alabama or Auburn

What's the difference?

It's still the 4 parts of the new SEC composed of 4 teams.

I’ve never understood why there can’t be exceptions for rivalry games.

Auburn-UGA
LSU-Florida
Bama-Tenn

Why have the 8 other schools been forced into a cross-divisional “rivalry” game because the conference wants to keep those 3 marquee games?

There’s no reason Auburn and Georgia can’t play every year even if they wind up in different pods. Exceptions can be made for rivalry games, regardless of the new alignment.
