Till Saban arrived at LSU they were a conference also ran. Alabama has been the best prgram in the conference since the 1920s.

well, Southern Conference and then SEC

For all of the talk of it being “easy to win after Saban leaves”, sustained success sure hasn’t been the case with LSU, a program who has one of the most talent rich states in the country to poach from.

LSU isn't Alabama.

This has been proven throughout history. We take good coaches (Bryant and Saban) and make them into GOAT candidates and take mediocre coaches (Stallings) and make them good coaches. Even Mike DuBose won the SEC at Alabama.

I would contend this:

It's a scary thought for any of you bastards how long we can enjoy our wins when the dynasty we see goes down. Remember all the "how long can a bama fan live off a dead bear" jokes?

That happiness and contentedness that we experience keeps our seats filled, our expectations high, and our program filled with just the right balance of badassery to find our next dynasty.

Let's face it... Alabama is at the tip top of places to coach, and it's from the ground up.

I mean, we are the only program other than Alabama that has 3 titles since 2000. 3rd winningest program in that time. Alabama will be fine, they won't be as perfect as they are now, but they'll always be around because of what Saban did.

college football didn't start in 2000. As previously noted, LSU was a conference also ran till Saban arrived there. He built your program so well that even Miles and Orgeron benefited from it. In due time that influence will wane. Not may be that time.

Conversely, Alabama has been the conference bell cow since the 1920s (southern conference before sec). There will naturally be a drop off after Saban retires but more often than not, Alabama will be a contender.

Agree, LSU since the BCS and undisputed national champion is the only team to win more than two national titles other than Alabama. Multiple teams with 2 titles, pretty good company at 2nd.

No school is close to touching Alabama now or in the near future. Alabama is the premier team at this time, this season Georgia looks good and may give the Crimson Tide a run for their money but will have to beat them twice.

I think this season Bama and Georgia will make it to the national championship series and what a great national title game this will be

“Haha Saban is leaving one day” posts are the best melts.

He’ll leave eventually. Until then, college football will be his bitch.

Just enjoy the ride and try not to get too angry.

Lol, it will be worse at Alabama. I remember our first game with Miles and I was like, where’s our beast arse defense which watch ASU pass all over LSU. No coach will meet or exceed what Saban has done at Bama. You can act like the next Saban is around the corner, but he’s not.

LSU has done well since Saban left, but he was just getting started at LSU and that’s what made his departure so difficult. It’s going to be harder when he leaves Bama, because the fan base will always be comparing Saban to the new coach and asking what would Saban have done in certain situations. The fall from grace will be gradual and very painful. You will see…

Oh, you mean the Ed Orgeron who led LSU to the best season in the history of college football. Ed Orgeron who dominated Clemson, who a year earlier dominated and embarrassed Alabama in the National Championship game.

If Ed fricking Orgeron can win a NC at LSU anyone can win a NC here.

best seasons in history don't have a defense that finished in the lower half of its own conference

All you have to do is remember how Alabama fans were in the mid 2000s. This current run they’re on will be the new nostalgic ammo for when they suck again

Think about this....from 1993-2007 was that absolute worst period in the 100+ years of Alabama Football. During that time we were crippled by sanctions and scholarship reductions twice. Even after all the blows we took we still remained competitive, managed some decent seasons and an SEC championship in 1999. Look, I hate to break it to you but "WE ARE ALABAMA". Of course we won't always win at the rate we are winning now but if you think we're going to become the Auburns, LSUs, or Vanderbilts of the SEC you are in for a rude awakening. Outside of sanctions, when has Alabama EVER been non-dominate for an extended amount of time? I'll hang up and listen. If you think we will tolerate sucking for a long time then you clearly haven't been paying attention. I guess if you aren't part of or ever experienced this culture you really don't understand. It's not your fault.

When we say "This is Alabama Football" Thats not some cute media catchy phrase. We really mean it with every fiber of our being! This history of Alabama is not a mistake. Yankees, Lakers, Celtics, Alabama all have something in common. Down years yes....But we always find a way to rise to the top!!

How many decades does Alabama have NC’s in?

How many HC’s have won NC’s at Alabama?

That's the difference. My Cat's grabbed a guy nobody wanted, I didn't want, and it worked out - to the tune of maybe 6-2 in the conference this year. If Kentucky pulls a couple upsets. And the starts continue to align.

'Bama can hire a guy that gives a stripper his credit card, a guy who's daddy drug him along before that, and a few other under-achievers ... and still turn right back into the Death Star in one good, yet obvious, hire.

'Bama, Ohio State ... yes, LSU ... a few others, their margin for error is just bigger. They pull more talent, year after year. It's comical when they do nothing with it - but the talent can't be denied.

LSU has 3 national championship appearances since Saban left and won 2 national championships. A perennial top 10 team the majority of that time. And that is with shitty Les Miles and Ed Orgeron leading the ship. I think Alabama will be just fine.

Alabama has been the gold standard that every other college football team wants to be for the past 10 years and will be the gold standard for the next 10 years. Saban is doing something that even the legendary great Bear Bryant didn't do and most likely won't ever be done again in our lifetimes. Rather you love or hate Alabama. You have to respect how Saban keeps their football program always at the top every year. I am curious about who will be Saban's successor?
