Saskatchewan cornerback Nick Marshall returned an interception 66 yards for a touchdown as the Roughriders opened the 2018 Canadian Football League season with a 27-19 victory over the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night.

Marshall's former Auburn teammate Tre Mason also made his CFL debut with Saskatchewan on Friday night. Playing in his first game since he was with the NFL's St. Louis Rams in 2015, Mason ran for 37 yards on five carries, with a long run of 15 yards.

......

But that works both ways for Marshall. During Marshall could be called upon to run a wildcat package for the Roughriders' offense.

"I did it in high school and all of my life coming up," Marshall said of playing on both sides of the ball. "Whatever you put your mind to, you can do it."

Only a matter of time before the Roughriders install the read option with Nick and Tre.

(FYI Trent Richardson is also on the team)

ESPN2 on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights while we’re in the sports doldrums of summer, I think.

Good for when you’re jonesing for some football like I am this time of year.

Being a RB in the CFL has got to suck, no reason to run the football really with only 3 downs to get 10 yards

Better hope they have not installed the read option with Nick and Tre by then. Once they do, it's on.

FYI, Bama's Christian Jones is on the team as well and had about 150 yards on special teams in the game.

Since the Panthers sold I'm glad to see Auburn land a CFL franchise.

I've enjoyed watching them. Fun getting to see a bunch of guys we watched in college go at it again.

Big fan of his. Saw him at Minor HS play TCHS and he got knocked tf out on the field for a few minutes after a punt return.

Anyway, later on in the game I was on the Minor side and had started a conversation with a Minor woman and I was talking to her about the Minor band halftime show and other topics non-related to the actual game. Eventually I asked her if she knew what number Christion Jones was because AU was recruiting him. She told me his # and I realized he was the guy who had gotten knocked out right before half. She tells me "its okay, hes fine. Mild concussion so he'll sit out the rest of this game but he'll be back next week."

Talked to this woman for another 10 minutes before she let it slip that she was actually Chris Jones' mom. I came away really impressed with how calm she was after what happened to her son and how she came back out to support the rest of the team even though her son was out for the rest of the day.

Tl:dr, - seems like he comes from a solid family.

Some people scoff when I say that I enjoy Canadian football--and I certainly don't think about when football starts down here--but it is always fun to watch guys get a second chance or guys who may not have quite possessed the NFL size or speed but were nevertheless gritty, tough, and good football players get a chance to make a living playing the sport.

Hopefully once the seasons change Tre Mason doesn't lead police on a chase while riding a snow mobile

What's the most shocking news in this thread?

JFF can't beat out Jeremiah Massoli for the start in the CFL

or

BowlJackson creeps the sidelines at high school football games

The Tiger-Cats have the worst offensive line I've ever seen.

It’s not an ability thing.
It’s a rite of passage deal.
And Johnny is smiling and taking it all in stride.

”I was very happy with the reps I got in the pre-season,” Manziel said. “I felt every rep I did get was an improvement for me in the learning process, so at the end of the day, I feel like those reps I got in pre-season were invaluable.”

To his credit, Manziel was saying all the right things on Friday.

This seems like a good time for you to admit what we’ve all always known: that being in the band in high school is the closest you’ve ever come to playing a sport.
