Alabama coach Nick Saban said Tuesday he would be open to his team playing other non-SEC schools in the state of Alabama, including a pair of HBCUs in Alabama State and Alabama A&M.

“I would be very much in favor of that,” Saban said when posed the question at SEC media days in Atlanta.

Of the nine other current Division I football programs in the state, Alabama has only played Auburn and Samford. It has played Samford a total of 21 times, all when it was known as Howard College and not since 1944.

Alabama also does not have a history of playing historically-Black colleges or universities, even as other SEC schools have scheduled such games. Auburn played Alabama A&M in 2016 and Alabama State last season.

“We’ve tried to be very supportive. Miss Terry is on the Board of Trustees at Stillman College,” Saban said of the HBCU in Tuscaloosa. “I’ve always been an advocate of playing in-state schools because I think it sort of helps them raise their level and their ability to compete, which obviously if you do that, you also contribute to how successful the players in those organizations can be.”

Saban has done more for the black community than any coach in the country.

Amazing. What a guy.

About time. If a big State school is playing small schools, why not support the state?

Ironic that he coaches for the most racist school in the country.

Now that other programs can pay players also, too.

He’s not even coaching at the most racist school in the state. Auburn’s student body is only 5% black.

I wonder if Saban is conditioning Alabama fans for the step down in competition when the Tide can no longer keep up with NIL?

Not interested in shite like that. If you're going to play a shite game, at least make it regional.

WRONG, take a trip to Auburn. Nobody cares about auburn like Alabama so it never gets covered. You have to look long and hard to find a black in that town and there's a reason for that.

I have also said repeatedly that UGA should limit our cupcakes to other Georgia schools like Kennesaw, GA St, Ga Southern, Georgia Tech, et al. If you are going to pay a team 1.2 Million to come get an arse whipping, keep it in state.

Only if they can run a sub 4.5 forty. Not much use for the rest of them. Wonder if he could find Alabama A&M on a map?

How's the machine treating Blacks these days? Have they let one be SGA Prez or Homecoming Queen yet? You know, just to look like you're trying?
