Saban salary graph

First of all I am not picking on Saban. I use him as the example because he is the trailblazer leading the coaching salary spike. His salary has nearly tripled in a 10 year period. He is worth every penny of that for what he does for the Alabama brand. Other coaching salaries are increasing as his raises the ceiling in this collegiate football arms race.
These coaches are state employees. The govern of the state of Alabama makes under $120k per year. This is nearly ubiquitous in the US:
We place this kind of value on the coaches of "amateur" sports at our academic institutions. Yet the athletes are forbidden to earn a buck (outside of scholarship, room, and board) for their work.
I don't know how to technology very well. Couldn't link images.

If someone can post these I'd appreciate.

This plus food over 4 years is north of $200K. I think they’re getting an ok deal.

Have you seen our last few Governors? They are overpaid!

And all that free coaching and training and development for the ones that do have pro potential. If you were to try and buy that level of development on the open market it would be ridiculous.

Room and board:
lodging and food, typically forming part of someone's wages or included in some other agreement.

What the OP is really saying
"I'm so pissed right now that we shite the bed again. Now, I'm gonna find an issue with Saban but try to make it sound like I'm not blaming him....but....to try to paint him in a negative light I'm gonna say he is the reason other coaches make outrageous money but make it sound like I'm Not no matter how much I resent him and Alabama"
Dude, school a can pay or not pay. Their decision, Not ours.

How did Saban go from 6 mil in 2010 down to 5 mil in 2011? And it took until 2013 for it to get back to 6 mil.

Actually I question our priorities as a culture...myself included. Thank you for exemplifying my point. My team beat the shite out of your team.

I wondered that as well. My guess is that he had bonuses from 2009 season.

Maybe some but guys like Cam and Johnny should have made 5 M a year.

Serious question because I don't know the answer. How many state employees over see a department that turns a profit?
Do any come close to generating the profits coaches make?

A tiny amount of a coach's salary comes from the school (state).
And Saban makes over $11 million a year these days.

The question is are they worth it. I think the answer is probably yes. Think about the merchandise that they moved. Remember the controversy when a guy posted himself typing in manziels name into the NCAA website and it pulling up his jersey for sale?

It's television's fault but Alabama raised the ante buy 1 million when they hired Saban and climbed out of the cesspool.
