Who thinks if UGA kicked the ball deep, Saban would have played for OT ? An OT game would have definitely put Bama into the playoffs even with a loss, and probably landed UGA at least a 4 seed. Sometimes you wonder what a coach is thinking.

I feel like I'm not ate up with Bama enough to understand this angle tbh. Like, I'm trying but...it's just hard for me to understand how a person could end up like this.

Saban lives for winning championships and he absolutely wanted the win and would've and did play for the win. This is ridiculous.

There were three minutes left in the game and Georgia had two timeouts...

Not saying he wouldn't have tried to win, but I think he wouldn't have done anything to lose in regulation. Again, playing for OT would have been the smart thing to do if you are sitting at #1.

Playing for OT would have been playing for the win.
Alabama had 6 straight stops and scored 21 unanswered points. They were at a distinct advantage for OT. I think Kirby knew this also and thought faking the punt to keep the ball and eke out a long FG was his only way to win it.

You have to believe he thought the playoff chances had changed the way they were playing. A loss in regulation might not have ensured a slot, a loss in OT would have.

I think I agree with your strategy but not the reason for the strategy.

If Georgia punted and had us pinned then Saban or any coach is still going to try and win the game with 3 minutes left. But no chance taking chances that would give Georgia the ball back around midfield with 1-2 minutes left.

Play calling is much different with the field position. (Hot Take)

But I dont think the reason would have been to get into a better situation to guarantee a playoff spot. It would have been the best way to win the game he was in.

Would be lying if I said I had not thought of your scenario myself last night though.

With the time left

If Bama was pinned inside the 10, yes

If Bama was pinned inside the 30, depends on the first play

If Bama was on or outside the 50, then they do what they did and that is win

I don't think Alabama's kicking game would have allowed him to be too conservative...the damn punter wouldn't have been able to put them back too far past midfield, and that's not too far from Hot-Rod's FG range.. It would have been an "interesting" three minutes.

If Kirby punts the fricking football I believe Dawgs would’ve had a field goal attempt for a W in regulation.

I was 3 rows from the top of the stadium and I saw Justin Fields trot on the field and I just knew Kirby was about to do something. I had no idea it would be that but I knew it would be bad.

If I saw it 3 rows from the top then I can only imagine what the BAMA punt coverage was thinking.

If we punt the ball, I believe we would've had a chance to kick for the win. We outplayed BAMA all game.

It's been 10 years and we are clearly the future. Hell, we should've won last year if it wasn't for the refs.

Once Saban beats Bryant's record, he'll retire and BAMA will go back to being mediocre, like they used to be.

The bottom line is that BAMA academically is a joke and the state is the laughing stock of the USA. Once Saban leaves they'll be irrelevant in every category. UGA is the future, we have a much better talent base in place.

As for Dabo being the savior, let's see how the SEC treats him after playing in the ACC all these years lol

You are obviously working through some post-game depression. Keep your head up. There's always next year.
