So, KD needs Daddy to help him?

One of NIck's biggest fears was not coaching. Even Terry worried how it would work out when he stepped away. It turns out he is loving his new roles and time and enjoying the rest of life he put to the side for so long, I do not know him but know a lot of the folks who do. He is HAPPY. The smile on his face is almost alwatys there. He even occassionally sleeps late. There is no opportunity or amount to get him back at this point.

"Coach Emeritus." No organization in its right mind would in any way restrict someone of Saban's caliber and legacy from being involved unless there was a potential NCAA rule violation. That seems highly unlikely in today's climate of the SEC and Big 10 telling the NCAA what to do. Unless he takes a gig at another school, I would imagine he will have an office in the building till he passes away, and even then it'll probably be kept up for a few years after he passes.
OP I think you're grasping at straws because there may be a very real sense that DeBoer is not "the guy." That may very well be - usually the coach that replaces a legend does not grow well in the shadow of that legend.
I wish nothing but eternal mediocrity for Bama, but... the worst-case scenario for the reality of the machine that is Bama football though, is 3 years of above-average performance punctuated by head-scratching losses. Then DeBoer "leaves" to go back to the West Coast, citing "a better fit for our family." Bama hires an established, respected coach for an ungodly sum of money, and by that point Saban's shadow is not nearly as big.
