Saban asked if he expects Jalen Hurts to be on the roster on opening day. Saban: "I have no idea." Notes Jalen graduates in December, would be in his best interest to stay on the team whatever his role ends up being.

no doubt i think tua will be the starter. hurts should stay at bama and switch to rb. jmo.

Wow talk about taking a quote out of context

There was way more to the answer than what Mandel tweeted. It did seem that Tua is probably ahead trying to read between the lines, but taking that small part of the quote and tweeting it is a pretty big misrepresentation.

i think most opposing fans are hoping for this. bama plus tua is just unfair.

I agree take some reps as back up at qb in practice...but mainly a rb in practice with plays accentuating his skill set

I don't think it will happen. Saban used the phrase "win the team" a couple of times. I think Tua has already done that if I'm being honest with you. I think we saw the frustration from teammates last year when Jalen couldn't make the throws that needed to be made. We saw (and heard) Saban's frustrations during the spring game regarding the same thing.

I expect that they'll start Tua and try to work Jalen into the plan in some way in hopes that it's enough to keep him around. I honestly could see Jalen taking those four games to feel things out and then deciding to leave the team and preserve two years of eligibility. And I wouldn't blame him at all.

We'll be fine. Mac looked better in the spring game than Hurts has ever looked throwing the ball.

Would be absolutely and patently ridiculous.

Hurts has had 2 full seasons under his belt and has not developed AT ALL. If anything he's regressed. He is what is he and it's not changing.

There will be growing pains with Tua but there will be GROWTH and his ceiling is sky freaking high.

Tua will start.

Saban knows he needs a passing QB to compete with LSU this year.

Don't anoint the kid just yet. Yeah he came in was clutch in the championship and is no doubt better than Hurts.. but lets see him traverse an entire SEC season first.

Also, Bama plus [ANY QB] is just unfair.

I could see some games this year where Bama, with an entire new secondary, needs the offense to put up some points. Tua just seems more capable of making that happen.

I expect he will simply because Saban will give him that respect for the last 2 years. I also think the two will play predetermined series for the first game, and perhaps the 2nd. By the 3rd game, though, it will be Tua's team, and personally, I don't care where Jalen Hurts goes.

I have to disagree, I don't think Saban will bring that extra baggage into 2018. His decision to stick with Hurts almost killed the locker room last season. There really is no logical reason to start Jalen over Tua outside of an injury.

Blake Barnett came out as the starter 2 years ago. I think he's on his 3rd team by now
