Ryan Day, interim Ohio State HC, turned down the HC role at Mississippi State?

This is the first time I'm hearing of this. I'm an avid State fan and followed our HC search as closely as any State fan would. I never even heard Ryan Day's name mentioned or him being remotely considered for the role, let alone offering the role to Day, who at that point was a QB coach/co-OC at Ohio State.
From USA Today's story on the Urban Meyer investigation story:

Another one of Urban Meyer's lies? I wouldn't put it past him to prop up his assistant.
LINK
Looking at what Ryan Day made when Mississippi State was trying to replace Mullen, it was $400000 for 2017 and then increasing to $800000 in 2018
LINK
After his elevation to OC in Feb 2018 (2-3 months after State hired Moorhead for ~$2.7M/yr), he is now making $1M on a 3 year contract with bonuses to the tune of $200k-$350K/yr.

Yeah, Urban Meyer wants us to believe a position coach is going to turn down a HC role to prove himself in a premier conference with a 3-4x salary hike.

Reason to move quickly
The Buckeyes are scheduled to open the season in 13 days at home against Oregon State (Noon, ABC). Ohio State ranked No. 3 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll. Buckeyes offensive coordinator Ryan Day is the interim coach. He had turned down the Mississippi State head coaching job to stay with the Buckeyes.

That would certainly blow up the State "knew who we wanted, went and got him" line of thought

yeah Im not buying that Mississippi State would rather have had Day than Moorehead.

Day has been a great QB coach. Taught Burrow all he knows.

Only homer fans believe that line to be true.

in today's media world, there's no way this is true.

He knew all of this Meyer shite before we did.

He probably just took his name out of the hat.

It happens. People still think RichRod turned us down when he was never even offered the job.
It’s just leverage.

Considering Cohen hired Moorhead two days after Mullen left, I would say you’re mistaken. Usually takes a while if you don’t (See UT football search, MSU baseball search)

I posted the most neutral thing possible and still get a downvote. Nice.

I totally agree with your statement but there is no way in hell Ryan-friggin-who?-Day turned down Mississippi State or Florida or Tennessee (Tennessee...hmmm?) to remain as a QB coach/co-OC

Myer and Mullen were probably somehow conspiring to get him a raise. Remember when Saban suggested LSU hire Houston Nutt to replace him?

His ties to Meyer go back to 2005, when he was a graduate assistant at the University of Florida.
Before beginning his coaching career, the Manchester, N.H., native played quarterback for the University of New Hampshire from 1998 to 2001.

You think State was going to listen to what Mullen had to say on his way out? Please!

No, I don't. Calm down a little.

Ha. Not agitated at all.
Btw, I like your line of thinking about New Hampshire natives and buddies. I was not at all aware of that connection

His name was mentioned as a candidate and he didn't express interest in an interview. Other candidates did interview, including Jeremy Pruitt. Moorhead won everyone over in his interview and quickly became the preferred candidate.
