I’ll be honest, I thought this was in reference to Cam’s dad and I felt sad. Nobody should have to lose their dad early

CM Newton was a great ambassador for college sports. He also brought UK out of the Eddie Sutton scandal.

Unfortunately he also hired Hal Mumme.

Played in softball league with this great guy. He was a big shot but he was just one of the guys out there and lovingly referred to as "fig"

He was a solid coach and man. He stabilized Vandy basketball when it desperately needed it.

I think the quote of “If Rupp is the man who built UK’s basketball program, then Newton is the man who saved it.” is incredibly accurate.

He was a basketball genius. And was on the frontlines of integration in the sport as well. A big loss for the SEC.

Couldn't say it any better. A great person is no longer with us.

Absolutely true. Hiring Pitino away from the Knicks made UK relevant again, even before they had become irrelevant. CM Newton was the right person for the UK athletic job at the right time for UK.

I worked at UK, and spent a lot of time at the Coliseum when this was all occurring and the new offices were being built. A 39 year old Pitino was the most focused person I have ever met or laid eyes on. He was relentless. I watched some practices, and every step by every player was scrutinized. It was also fun to see Pitino, Smith, Donovan, and Sendek all working together.

As chair of the rules committee, he brought the shot clock and the 3 point line to college basketball.

Integrated Alabama's roster as coach. Hired the first black men's coach at UK, and the first black female head coach of any sport in the SEC.
