The no coaches going with him could turn out to be something. The recruits can be simply Kelly expects to get more elite recruits at LSU than he could get into ND.

You're right. We're doomed, we paid Kelly too much out of desperation and he can't get his assistants from ND to refuse promotions and raises. Gonna fall to the cellar. Might as well make friends with Vandy and the clerk at the SEC loss claims department now.

Not the point here. Other teams in the SEC are already getting better and should be better next year. Kelly isn't going to all of a suddenly beat them all of those that are getting better next year. Arkansas, Ole Miss, MSU, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Auburn. I am not sure if some would have the talents to compete though. The HCs and some players are going to get better next year and some were learning a new system. LSU will be behind with players that will need to learn a new defense system and other players to learn a new offense system. That is why it is better to keep a HC longer than 4 years.

Exactly, everyone else is so good how can LSU compete? We threw away $100M to finish in the cellar because everyone else in the SEC is too good and our cupboard is bare. We're doomed.

Never said that. I am saying LSU isn't going to just beat all those teams that are getting better next year and LSU is going to be stuggling with a new HC and new OC and DC. That is't going to leap frog any teams that is going to be much better next year. LSU might win a game or two that shouldn't but they are likely like Texas A&M but should pick up a lot quicker than what Texas A&M went through the last 5 years with same HC. Rarely to see a new HC gets team into a 10-2, 11-1, or even 12-0 season in a strong SEC west division.

Gonna take my troll goggles off because I just don't have it in me to do it for a 3rd post in a row. I fully expect 7-8 wins for the first season, if we do better than that then I'm ecstatic. It's all about the 2nd season for me. But as far as the "everyone in the west is good" argument goes, well yeah that comes with the territory lol.

Yes that is correct. Not going to be a 10,11 or 12 win season. In second year should improve from first. Look at Arkansas. MSU, Ole Miss? They all got better in the HC's second year. This year SEC west teams are very strong right now. Didn't you not see that Riley bolted to USC and not take the LSU job because SEC west teams are too good for him to beat them?

ND recruits are going there for Freeman and not Kelly.

So offensive recruits were going for a DC?

That’s not weird. That’s not suspicious.

Truth is Kelly is a twat to be around according to anyone in media who has spent any time around him. Does that matter if he wins? No. I don’t think Saban is super friendly lovable dude either.

Riley is flipping California guys who wanted to play for USC, but Helton didn’t recruit. At all. Bryce Young according to Leinart and others was all Trojan, until they wouldn’t even do an in home visit. The PAC12 has had no one really doing a full court press recruiting since Carroll.

Kelly has never had to beg for recruits at ND either, so who knows how well he will do. Think about it this way, would you want to have your livelihood based on the whims of a 16-18 year old? Matt Rhule, Joe Brady, Urban Meyer, and Pete Carroll all didn’t want that anymore.

And will he have to "beg" at LSU?

LSU has advantages that all the others, outside of Nick Saban, doesn’t have. Louisiana has the most nfl players per capita and there’s only one power 5 school in the state. Closest thing to it is Georgia. Look where they are at now that they have a competent head coach. So Arkansas, the Mississippi schools, & A&M can all get better. They ain’t LSU.

Kelly leaves and has not taken a single Coach or recruit

His Defensive Coordinator took the Head Coaching job. The other assistants know what they have in the new coach and I am sure they are settled in South Bend. Doesn't really say much of anything about Kelly. It's night and day between South Bend and BR. I wouldn't make too much of it. Now Kelly could be a total arse and the that's the reason. But, up and coming coaches can put up with a total arse in order to advance their careers. I am sure he can put together a good staff.

We don’t want ND recruits. We’ve won 3 natties in 18 years with Louisiana recruits with a few outsiders sprinkled in. The backbone of the team has and always will be from Louisiana high school football. Brian Kelly already said his first job is to recruit our base, which ain’t California or New York.

Kelly said, in response to a question about N.D. recruits & Riley & OU recruits : "Lincoln Riley does what he wants. I do what I want." A not subtle shot at Riley.

But did he deliver the line with a genuine southern accent?

He actually prefaced it with "I do decla-uh" as he was sitting in a rocking chair on his front porch sipping a mason jar of iced tea and fanning himself.

A&M lost to LSU's third string while being coached by coach O. you people made fun of him constantly. now we have a good coach and you are shitting on yourself because you know you will never beat LSU again. enjoy Jimbo.

Chuy! It's pretty simple. Riley had several top California kids either committed or in the process of committing to him. He moves to LA they get to stay home.

On the flip side: Brian Kelly had one Louisiana recruit who may or may not be a take.

Don't be lazy man, look for the answer before posing silly questions

There’s been lots of talk about him leaving since mid season, but everyone thought he was eyeing the SC gig

USC got the better coach which is why LSU pursued Riley.
