Of the 3 guys we lost on offense, TE was the biggest loss. The guys who will be replacing the other 2 spots all have a ton of experience to go along with more talent than their predecessors. It's nice to have an offense in this position for once.

On defense we don't have anyone who can replace Devin White, but we shouldn't miss a beat in the secondary. Replacing Greedy with Stingley may have a slight drop off early on, but he will be one of the best corners in the league by the end of the year. Replacing Battle at safety is an upgrade. Should be a better overall defensive unit this year.

The 8 starters we lost (4 on each side of the ball) are being replaced with better players with the exception of Deebo.

The 14 starters we are returning are pretty good and one year older and stronger .... because quite a few of them were freshmen or sophomores last year.

So those numbers in the OP are relative and I am sure that applies to all those teams.

Now, and this is not a knock on them, but UT's returning 16 are not all SEC level players. I'm sure the new faces replacing those lost will be better though and I am serious about that. It's just that UT still has some work to do in terms of depth and talent.

UT definitely needs to develop the talent they have, and the biggest need is in the trenches on both sides of the ball. They were below average last year on the offensive line, and the question is..."are returning starters from a bad unit a blessing or a curse?". Still, I believe the general perception of the level of talent on the team, and the actual potential of the players are in-congruent.

This is the repository from which these returning starters are coming.

I liked the new returning production rankings here better. Returning starters does not tell the whole story not even close.

Like the most of us, it’s just a hope that the replacements are going to be better. It can’t be proven until the rubber meets the road.

I just knew that link you posted was going to show that our returning starters would null any possible hope we have of a bounce back year but it actually improved our stock a little. Well done sir. Thanks for not killing my hopes and dreams before our team does!

A coot telling another team they don’t have SEC level players.
