For UK, the jersey is retired but the number itself isn't if that makes sense. Similar to basketball (see Marcus Lee wearing Tony Delk's jersey number).

If Alabama retired numbers, we would be using triple digit numbers today. Which, after scouring the NCAA rulebook, I couldn't find a rule against.
