Arkansas OL coach Brad Davis recently left Fayetteville to take the same job on LSU’s coaching staff.
That left coach Sam Pittman with a key opening on his staff heading into the 2021 season. And, now, it seems he is nearing a hire.
Per FootballScoop, Pittman is close to bringing in a former Razorback with some offensive coordinator experience in the NFL in Dowell Loggains.
An Arkansas native who graduated from high school in Abilene, Texas, and then played for the Razorbacks in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Loggains most recently has been an senior offensive analyst on James Franklin’s Penn State staff.
Loggains doesn’t figure to take over as the OL coach. It was reported that Cody Kennedy was being moved from OL coach to TE coach, so Loggains figures to be the TE coach.
Loggains has been the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, so he brings plenty of NFL experience to his new role.

So he's been the OC for the 3 worst offenses in the NFL? Great hire

So, replacing on staff. But, not as OL coach?

That’s a huge hire. He was in the mix for NFL head coaching gigs a couple years ago.
Cody Kennedy moved to OL from TE’s. He coached OL at Tulane.
Pitt Boss always has a plan.

Yeah, before that he apparently had similar experience as a GA for Georgia.

Kennedy spent the 2018 season as a graduate assistant coach for the offensive line at the University of Georgia, where he helped the Bulldogs earn finalist honors for the Joe Moore Award. Before his time with Georgia, he was the offensive line coach at the University of West Georgia for two seasons.

Loggains is going to be the TE coach, not the Oline coach.

This is what people always say in these situations and the hires suck more than they don't.

It’s not like TE coaching is really that noticeable. We probably needed a former Razorback on staff to help recruit Arkansas kids and his NFL pedigree should help as well.
Interested to see how he and Briles mesh though since Briles is the QB coach but Loggains has mainly worked with QBs throughout his career.

Yeah, TE coach usually seems to be a spot for another recruiter.
I think it's a fine hire from that standpoint.

Brad Davis is irreplaceable.

If there's one position group I'm not worried about at all under Pittman, it's OL.

I will never doubt a Pittman hire for the OL.

He's over qualified for TE coach, but he gets to come home for awhile. Good hire for Sam.
