Doesn't his contract say that for him to receive his buyout he has to actively pursue a coaching job. No way he is interested. Just doing enough to receive his paycheck.

this is patently obvious to anyone with a brain. but, it just isn't any fun. the truth is just not accecptable to those that embrace drama. rumor is just so much more fun

Everyone keeps talking about him sitting around collecting money as if the man is broke. The man has made plenty of money during his life and has stated many times that he still wants to coach. He could easily have a job on tv but he wants to coach. If he really wants back in, this may be his opportunity.

I've heard Miles has reached out to some Ole Miss officials and boosters about the job. I didn't hear this through media but from an Ole Miss alum with some connections.

The bottom line is if he wants back into coaching this is going to be his best option. Top programs aren't going to hire him so it's either explore this option or talk to Arkansas State when that job opens up.

Heck, he might be able to parlay it into a HC/AD role at some point.

CLM is presently making $175K a mth & will do so for several more yrs. At his age, why would he want to bust his balls to win, mabe 6-7 games a year?

to beat LSU and watch the ensuing melt

Les will one day return to the SEC as a head coach, but I don't see it being for Ole Miss.

I would be a little upset to see Les at another SEC school. He's a stubborn moron but he's our stubborn moron

Les ain't going to ole miss. If he does, les is going to realize the huge difference in programs between LSU and ole miss, like orgeron has already. It's apples and oranges, seriously. Wouldn't mind beating the shite out of les a few times before he retires.

If he beats LSU at ole Miss with spread offense I will be ruined and I think I am reasonable

Les was interested in the Houston job, you don't think he would want to be at OM in the best conference in the entire coin ? One that he is extremely familiar with?

Maybe it's so he can keep getting that big check, but I really think he does want to coach again. OM would not be too good for Miles IMO. Would add great entertainment as well ;-)

CLM without the facilities, money, and recruiting base would be exposed.

I know Mississippi has great recruiting grounds but they also have 2 major programs competing for that talent not to mention all the other SEC teams recruiting the state.

Les Miles has consistently done well recruiting the Southeastern part of the country. He would have no issue walking into any school or any home for that matter. He has more skins on the wall than any coach not Saban and has put more players into the NFL than anyone but Saban.

No one, including LSU, wants him to be a pest on the recruiting trail.

Much less pressure at OM,

And that's the thing, do they get Les, the river boat gambler, or the play not to lose Les.

The gambler would sneak up and upset some teams.

Literally ZERO expectations for the next 2-4 years. And if he ever does get them to like an 8-4 record, that would be more than enough in Oxford.

I don't think les wants to return to coaching for the job security and zero expectations. He wants to coach somewhere where he'll have a chance to win. He's 63 and doesn't need the money. Why would he go to a dumpster fire like Ole Miss? Les is just ensuring he keeps collecting his buyout.

I would agree if Les was a young rising star coach, but he isn't

Which is why he'd be perfect for them right now. Let Miles coach there for 4-5 years and help stabilize the program. When the worst of the upcoming sanctions are behind them, then they could go look for a rising young coach.
