Recruting talent in each SEC state for 2018....

Florida 9 five stars, 64 four stars
Georgia 5 five stars, 39 four stars
Texas 2 five stars, 50 four stars
Louisiana 1 five star, 14 four stars
Tennessee 1 five star, 13 four stars
Alabama 1 five star, 9 four stars
SC 1 five star, 5 four stars
MIzzou 7 four stars
Mississippi, 3 four stars
Arkansas, 2 four stars
Kentucky 2 four stars
According to Rivals rankings.
UGA, UF and A&M are the only schools that could build a conference champion/national champion on state talent alone.
Bama fans often say "Saban recruits nationally." as if no one else in the SEC does. Fulmer did it before him. Urban did it even at UF. Kirby is currently doing at UGA. The difference is Saban has to and Fulmer had to and so does Pruitt if he wants to stay there.
While some here have hyped Tennessee as a budding hotbed. They are clearlly in a tier below Florida, Georgia and Texas. And looking at where their top kids went this year, they are still having a problem keeping the few elite recruits they have in state.

Lol are you implying that doesn’t mean anything?

Just curious if Florida's numbers include only guys that grew up there, or does that number include IMG players that could be from other states? Just curious because I know they attract top players from all over the South, so not sure how that affects the numbers...

I'm not implying, I'm outright saying. When it comes to recruiting per capita is utterly meaningless. I can't type as much on phone but will elaborate tmrw.

If you’re talking about recruiting that’s fine. I thought you were making fun of Louisiana people for bragging about the level of talent we produce per capital. And ftr it’s all professional sports, not just football.

Damn, you're one dumb motherfricker. No one is comparing Tennessee to 3 states that produce the most talent in the country along with Cali. Talent within TN, especially East and Middle TN have increased exponentially over the past decade. This is not debatable.
Appreciate the response thread, nitwit.

What about NFL talent? That's a better metric, imo.

I'm strictly talking about recruiting

Here is 247's composite, includes Rivals, ESPN, 247. IMO, a safer ranking since it does not depend on 1 service, but includes all 3 major services.
State: 5 stars, 4, 3
Florida:........4, 46, 157
Georgia:.......7, 31, 142
Texas:..........5, 37, 202
Louisiana:....3, 11, 48
Alabama:.....2, 12, 94
Tennessee:..0, 16, 87
Mississippi:..1, 12, 39
Missouri:......0, 07, 37
Kentucky:.....0, 05, 22
Arkansas:.....0, 05, 18
South Ca:r....1, 01, 13
I included 3 stars because we all know that some turn into 4s and 5s, just as some 4s and 5s turn into 2s and 3s. And it gives a much better view of what kind of talent a state produces.
I was shocked at South Carolina's lack of talent. I assume this is an off year.
I was pleasantly surprised with Missouri's talent and disappointed in Arkansas and in Texas' lack of 4 and 5 star talent. The rest are as expected.
Florida, Georgia and Texas obviously have the most talent, but they have to fight off multitudes of other schools for it. So, their talent advantage is not as great as it appears.
Alabama and LSU, though their states don't have as much talent, usually get a much higher % of their instate kids than UF, UTx and UGA. So, they can get at least half of their needs in state because they don't have to fight off others as much. LSU has no in-state competition and Bama usually gets 80-90% of what it really wants instate, though they don't have to at this time. And almost nothing leaves the state that Alabama or Auburn really want. Tennessee now produces enough talent to support UT, but they have trouble getting all of it because of geography and any metro area such as Nashville has far less "loyal" kids. I.e., usually, they are not as bound to the instate school as rural and small town kids.

Calling ESPN a major service is sketchy IMO. They are nowhere near Rivals and 247. I'd much rather 247's composite not include them. They don't have the manpower to really cover recruiting the way the other two do and their ranking updates are often late. Rivals and 247 have people on the ground evaluating talent at these camps, ESPN often has no one attending. IYAM, the recruiting camps that allow these top end kids to go head to head has made recruiting sites better predictors than just going off film and 40 times, etc. like they did in the past.

Alabama is deeper than Louisiana or Tennessee.

One more thing. The difference with UGA and UF and A&M is we really don't have in state competition. We're rarely going head to head with Tech as they don't recruit on our level. We do get some competition from Auburn, Clemson and others. But Smart did a great job of getting the top talent to stay last year. Right now, it's not looking as good, but I'll wait until December. Owen P. committed to Auburn a few weeks ago and has already been back on campus in Athens since then. I'm told there will be many more return trips.

Alabama could build a title contending team on in-state talent alone. NFL rosters reflect the amount of talent in Alabama.

IF you go to 3 star kids, yes. But Saban usually doesn't go after many of those. Elite talent 4 and 5 star, they are about the same.

I wish he would go after more of those three stars in Alabama. Lots of those kids end of in the NFL. The state of Alabama is vastly underrated.
