Recruiting for Next UT Coach--Not a Flame

I moved to Knoxville around the year we beat them for the SEC title, and knocked UT out of a 2nd shot at a national championship. In those days we were out of our league against the Vols. They recruited nationally, and Saban hoped to put up a fence around the boot. And he did. And Tennessee started losing to Florida, and Georgia, and SC, and Bama, and kept losing to LSU. And the wheels fell off. And now they lose to Vandy and Kentucky.
And they still have to recruit nationally due to lack of in state talent. The problem is there are multiple top 5, top 10, and top 20 SEC schools at this time. Whereas Florida will get theirs in state, as will A and M, BAMA, LSU, and UGA, that is not an option for UT on a large scale. And even the Barret Jones, Golden Tates, and future stars like Jalen Hurd leave their great state to play elsewhere.
And Vandy's rising. Yeah, that happened. I live in Hndersonville, and can't believe what Franklin has accomplished in short order.
It takes more than good facilities, loyal fans and a rich tradition to win. You have to be able to recruit. It's almost as thought the rug has been pulled out from the Big Orange. As they faltered, others capitalized, and they played for keeps.
What coach would want to come dig out of this hole? That's a tall order for the 4th coach in <10 yrs.
If they don't get someone who can recruit well, the losing will continue.

when has recruiting ever been a problem for Tennessee?

There are tons of horror stories about Dooley and his inability to recruit and he was still able to pull in 10-15th ranked classes every year.
Recruiting isn't/hasn't been the problem.

If you want to return to being a top 10 program, it's a problem now.

Dooley was a retard and he still brought in top 15 classes. Recruiting is not our problem, coaching is

Yea thats to be expected when you're coach nose dives in the last two months of the season and gets canned. We still don't have a replacement.

Ha, if recruiting translated to good football we would be a top 10 team! Get yourself a man who can coach, not just recruit.

Any word on who may be next?

You need both. Good coaching, AND good recruiting.
Tennessee has 6 players from Tennessee right now.
They have a handful of 4 stars. How many will decommit?
LSU has 11 from Louisiana with others still on the board.
Finishing 15th or lower in recruiting repeatedly will not serve a team well in the SEC.

so currently UT is in a normal state firing on all cylinders. and #24 recruiting ranking is the norm and the best UT could ever hope for. gotcha.

there are 9 SEC schools ahead of them.
That's a problem if I am a Rocky Top fan.

again currently UT is in a normal state firing on all cylinders. 9 SEC schools ahead of UT is the norm. UT just had a magnificent run of 3 straight losing seasons and doesn't even have a coach.

Tennessee had a lame duck coach for almost 365 days. Since he was let go, we have not had a coach at all.
Is that 24th ranking supposed to mean something?

We don't have a coach right now and just had our third consecutive losing season and we are at #24. Think about that and see if you understand it.

The norm relative to what?
I started my post stating they were ready to play for MNC #2. Were they hauling in lower than top 20 classes then? I don't know because I didn't follow recruiting then.
In those years after that letdown SECCG, Fulmer pulled in top 5 classes, with a number 1 if I remember right.
With all the uncertainty, I wouldn't be surprised to see their ranking fall.
