Ranked teams at the time or how teams ranked at the end of the year?

Lol, 7-6 FSU factors into that.
Bama is like 5/6-3 against final poll AP teams the past 3 years.

It’s just shocking which four teams stand out from the pack.

But how many times have you played Alabama?
Posted on 5/20/18 at 12:40 am to Korin
I’ve got Bama at 16-3 against teams ranked in the AP Poll at the end of the year from 2015-2017
Here’s how the SEC shapes up in the same time span (sorted by win %)
Alabama (16-3)
Georgia (5-7)
Ole Miss (4-8)
LSU (4-9)
Tennessee (3-7)
Auburn (4-10)
Arkansas (4-10)
Florida (3-9)
South Carolina (3-9)
Texas A M (2-9)
Kentucky (1-8)
Mississippi St (1-9)
Vanderbilt (1-9)
Missouri (0-8)
Obviously, Bama is on another level regardless.

Elaborate?
Are we taking an officiating angle?
There’s only 5 teams in the nation with a winning record over that span.
Clemson (14-2)
Bama (16-3)
Oklahoma (11-3)
Houston (5-2)
Ohio State (9-4)

why do yall keep using the AP? that poll has not mattered one single iota since 2003, and even then it wasn't a ton. Use the playoff rankings or coaches poll since those are at least more current/relevant.

Everyone picks whatever poll suits their narrative.
Don't you know that?
When I have a specific narrative, I always go to the AP.

quote:I'd argue the AFCA coaches poll (Crystal ball trophy) lost relevance when the BCS died and it's trophy wasn't the featured award. But, truth is, the poll itself has always been a joke as most coaches either half-assed filled it out or delegated it to a minion who did the same.

The AP poll "mattered" in the BCS formula until 2005. It fallout from its member's voting changes not being masked like the coaches poll (who had even more asinine vote swings) was the issue, not the validity of the poll itself. Tired of the backlash, the AP opted out at the end of 2004 and the Harris poll replaced them (essentially creating the forefather of the CFP selection committee).
While I agree, the CFP trophy is THE legit champ trophy today. I wonder truly how much emphasis the CFP committee places on ranking teams outside of those competitive for the top 4.
The AP poll remains the oldest human poll still used in CFB, is typically more informed/well thought out than the coaches poll, and it still takes a prominent place on display at championship parades and team trophy museums.
I'd argue even the FWAA is still a better poll than the coaches. Although, it's sweet 16 release does a final ranking before bowl season now, as the Grantland Rice Trophy is no longer presented and the MacArthur Bowl is presented jointly by the FWAA and NFF to the CFP champ.

Except when they don't.
Final coaches poll actually gives UA a slight boost in overall record vs. Final top 25 teams.
2017: 4-1; no change overall except to some of the opponent's final positions in the poll.
2016: 6-1; no change overall except to some of the opponent's final positions in the poll.
2015: 7-1; gained a top 25 opponent as UGA snuck into final coaches poll at 24. The other opponents are the same with some variation in their rank position.
So, 16-3 vs. AP poll and 17-3 vs. Coaches poll. So much for narrative... unless the narrative was simply responding to the issue at hand with actual results.

You are putting way too much work into this.
The OP used one poll.
It was convenient to the point he/she was trying to get across. No other polls were needed and they werent included.
My response isn't about facts. It is about how/why/what people post.
