Good morning all, I guess I should say afternoon since it's past 12:00. Anyway I was thinking about the Ole Miss investigation and I know this will be trolled to hell but...

I've never been one of the fans who thinks nothing will happen, but I am curious to see what will happen. Being 30 I really only followed college football since 2007. First two years at Ole Miss I didn't even go to a game. But after that point I kinda became obsessed and watch everygame and even get pumped up for shitty games when college football first comes around.

When I first attended Ole Miss I had no idea the difference between Vanderbilt and Alabama. I'm not from the south so none of these SEC teams meant anything. I grew up in Eugene and went to some Ducks games as a kid but they were shite back then.

Anyway, I know Ole Miss got hit with some penalties in the 90's as did Alabama. But was Alabama any good after Bear Bryant left? Was there a huge gap in quality from Bryant > Saban? Or were they still dominant? Same with LSU? I know I could google all of this, but I figured I'd ask the fans of these teams which some fans may have actually lived through the good/bad times.

If people at Ole Miss cheated, than let the punishment fit the crime. It sucks but, what can you do> I'll still cheer for them. I just want them to be competitive. I don't want to win 0 games for 20 years straight. Not sure if that would happen but meh. Like I said I followed Ed O's last year, Houston Nutt, and Freeze, that's all I've got to to base my knowledge of Ole Miss football on.

Long winded rant, and I'm sure people will post the gif (didn't read that.) etc. But basically:

1) How bad do you think the next 10 years will be for Ole Miss (as in how many head coaches come and go, how many players transfer, how many wins per season they can get.)

2) Do you think Ole Miss really did worse than many other schools? I'm not naive I know money talks, we got caught but, how rampant do you think pay for play etc really is?

Cheers everyone. Hope everyone is having a good week so far. Don't forget the gif, nice melt :D

1) Going to be really bad. Better hope you have a decent year this year because it won't happen again for a while. Once you get the postseason ban, all your players will be gone.

2) Yes, what you did is worse than most. Don't be the "well, everyone else does it" guy.

Bama has won at least one SEC Championship in every decade since the conference was created. Bama wasn't ever really bad until the early to mid 2000s, under DuBose & Shula.

I think it will be pretty tough. But Ole Miss has never been a very good program on any consistent basis. Ole Miss fans are used to losing more than they're not. We're talking about a program who has not once won 10 games in a regular season.

It was pretty bad and definitely flagrant. They've been paying players to not take official visits, cancel visits, etc. for quite some time. When Freeze showed up, Ole Miss money slingers went crazy. $100 handshakes are one thing. Paying a player thousands of dollars to take a visit or cancel a visit is another.

So hard to answer this because we don't know the final verdict yet but I think the loss of scholarships are really going to hurt over time. I think it is going to take at least 5-7 years to get full strength again.

Any worse? Probably a little bit when looking at all schools, probably not when looking at some of the bigger ones.

Why the hell would you go to Ole Miss? Was it your only option?

It's going to be bad. Ole miss will become the doormat of the SEC and that's no exaggeration. The really sad part about this is all Ole Miss achieved with the cheating was one Sugar Bowl victory. That's a heavy price to pay for one Sugar Bowl.

You seem like a reasonable guy. Really the problem is the administration appears to have colluded with the boosters. And the problem is also rather than fire everyone, disassociate Everyone and move on, ole Miss is continuing to redact booster names and keep the current AD and HC.

It makes no sense why any Ole Miss fan would want to keep Freeze at this point. It's not like he's won the SEC West or has a great record(19-21). Yet almost every Rebel I see wants to keep him. I can't name another school that would keep him after draft night. I just can't.

Dear death penalty diary

The NCAA will never again hit a program with the true "death penalty".
Right now I am of the opinion that the NCAA is struggling with a set of penalties that are severe enough to make their point without mortally wounding OM.
OM is a member of the premier football conference and the trick will be to penalize OM enough without hurting the rest of the cash cow that is the SEC.
With the NCAA, cash flow is the deciding factor in all decisions.

I think you will have a very good season this year... you have a good team that will be motivated with something to prove.
The next few years will be rough with lack of recruits.
OM was way too obvious.

I don't like seeing any SEC program getting hammered!
Best of luck to you and the Rebs!

I honestly think they'll go back to being traditional Ole Miss...so how bad is that?

You guys really went full retard. Given the lack of traditional success from OM I think you'll be made an example out of by the NCAA.

Well lets look at 2 recent cases.

A) Penn State....everyone thought that Penn St would be done after the JoPa/Sandusky deal. Sure they were down for a few years but look where they are now....competing for the Big 10.

B) Miami...basically same was thought of Miami and they did go down and certainly haven't gotten back to the National Title level yet.

The problem with Ole Miss is that they aren't Penn St or Miami....if OM falls off the map they might very well stay there just because of lack of name recognition.

Not even a little bit. They just did a piss poor job of managing it and got involved with a shady player that brought the house down.

At the 1000-5000/recruit area...I'd say highly....I think exorbitant numbers that we sometimes hear are pretty uncommon if they happen at all.

Not really, but no one knows for sure. The Nutt regime stuff was definitely a frick up but Ole Miss admitted to that and penalized themselves. There is no known Freeze smoking gun (yet).

The problem is there is an Ole Miss perception of a meteoric climb from dumpster to riches (2013 signing class). It's a bit of a false narrative, but narratives are powerful.

Combined with triggered rivals, Freeze haters, "take themselves too seriously" journalists, and butthurt investigators, you have the results of today.
