Oh look. Another Bama fan thinks regular season titles are better.

Tournament title gets you an automatic bid. Regular season doesn't. Much more at stake.

Tournament title > Regular season title. The selection committee agrees.

I think they matter and should be included in some (small) way. On a deep dive I'd add in some sort of penalty for sub-500 seasons (-5 or something).

But in the grand scheme of things it wouldn't change much I don't think.

Because it is.

What incentive do the teams that aren't at least on the bubble have in the conference tournaments if there was no automatic bid?

Regular season doesn't.

The SEC regular season champion is getting into the tournament regardless. They don't need an automatic bid.

So if LSU wins the conference tournament, you think they will get a better seed than Bama?

Says who? You can easily have an SEC team win the regular season title and not get in.

Winning a championship. Duh.

And look, guess who’s making this argument. An LSU fan. LSU has only won one conference tournament in their entire school history. And it was in 1979

Pretty sure it's never happened in modern SEC Basketball

But regular season wins aren’t valueless.

I wouldn't have a problem with a ranking that involved them but you would have to make them very low value compared to tournament finishes imo

By using the OP’s criteria - regular season conference championships weighing more than tournament championships - we see that regular season wins matter

Well, I don't really agree with him on that so I won't defend it.

When you compare where these two programs sit over the course of conference history, Florida getting that close is just a testament to how insane their run was in the 2000s.

You can win the regular season championship by going 11-7 in conference. And with a poor non-conference record, you’re out of the tournament. Sorry bro. Take it up with the selection committee.

So a team could make the Sweet 16 for 8 out of 20 seasons, literally win 0 games in the other 12, and would be the #5 SEC program since 2000?

Is that a problem with your system, or a testament to how weak the conference was for a stretch?
