The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University are flagship universities of the state of Texas. Both were established by the Texas Constitution and hold stakes in the Permanent University Fund.

Well that's not the perception, which is all that matters for this discussion.
exactly
I'm obviously using the word "flagship" as a metaphor for the most prestigious football programs in their respective states.
Why is that obvious? Because I mentioned Southern Cal and they are a private university

USCw is by far the best job in the countr
It has a lot most programs don't. Large, thriving city, great weather, nearby beaches, California lifestyle in general (which young people love).
But it's also strapped with elastic fan support. USCw becomes as big as gets when they're riding high, but sort of fall into obscurity when they're not winning 10+ per year. I think because it's located in LA, people don't live and die by USC football. It's not hard to be apathetic in LA.
That being said, USCw runs the west coast. It's probably one of the easiest schools at which you can win big.
I think it's a notch below Texas, Bama, Florida, and LSU,

But you wouldn't have that perception in 1998. You'd be reaching back quite a ways to argue Texas's supremacy or status as a prestigious club. Why? Shitty coaching.
Certain programs have the inherent advantages to always be in the scene. Those programs need only coaching. TAMU, like Texas, is one of those programs. Is it easier to win at Texas? Yeah, I think so. But its advantages aren't such that its placed on a level TAMU can't reach.
Money, location, support. Those are your three primary ingredients. Any program possessing those three elements in abundance has all the potential in the world.

You're probably a nice guy and reasonably smart on most subjects... but omigod does the big brother insecurity still plague you and most of your fellow aggies.
In the middle of your post you acknowledge the only point (sort of) being discussed (that Texas is a better job than even a great job like A&M) but still feel the need to discuss Texas vs A&M even though nobody was running A&M down as a program.

I don't think OSU is high enough. They will face someone in the SECin the natty next year. Meyer is going to have that program humming.

Late to the party but has the fact that Kentucky is ranked higher than State been discussed?

Cons: LSU has so much going for it, but why have so many coaches failed to win at a high level in Baton Rouge? From 1971 though 2000, the Tigers only won one outright SEC championship, in 1986 under Bill Arnsparger.
According to rantards, recruits and wins just fall off the trees here, doesn't matter who the HC is.

The fact that Alabama is not #1 is laughable.
Not if you consider you have to live in Tuscaloosa to have the job.

The Kentucky job is ranked over the Mississippi State job.
Just wanted to point out the credibility of this ranking.
Kentucky football will never be relevant. To it's own university or the rest of the world.
The exact same is true for Mississippi State...

And they'll get poleaxed in said game. And that'll be the end of that
j/k, I see the point you're making, Jobu

Better than most college towns in the SEC and most college towns in general.
Tuscaloosa actually a pretty cool place.
