Just saying for all the heat UM is under for the La. Tech game, let's not all pretend this is not normal and that there are far worse incidents. Case and point, the SEC Tournament Championship game between LSU and Miss. State (the year escapes me), LSU holds a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th and the rain starts coming...Ron Polk starts to slow walk to the mound between every batter and making switches to ensure that the game does not reach the five inning complete and intentionally forces a shared title.

Last night was anywhere near as significant or BS as what we have seen for decades.

We understand the rule but its bush league to not cover the field, try to reschedule the game, or even move the game up an hour. LSU moved opening night up to the daytime because of weather.

I think most folks are giving Ole Miss shite just to give Ole Miss shite.

The game was never going to finish, even if they tarped the field.

The heat on Ole Miss too is completely from the perspective of Louisiana Tech’s side too. I get being upset at the outcome but acting like Ole Miss didn’t tarp the field in order for it to be unplayable is completely false. It was a lightening delay that started it all, not a rain delay.

The Louisiana Tech coach is acting like a petulant child. Ole Miss can’t control the weather, the game WAS moved up unlike what’s being put out there, and the team is traveling to Minnesota today so suggesting we play the rest of the game today was stupid

The exact same thing happens in MLB all the time. The game must go through five innings (or 4.5 if the home team is winning). I recall once as Twins fan the last series of the season. We were playing the Tigers the year they lost like 100 games and we called up a bunch of rookies. We scored nine runs in the first inning and one guy got two hits in the inning (his first MLB inning). The game was 13-0 after four played and then the rains hit and never stopped. It's not just college.

This

It rained and heavy lightning in Oxford literally all evening and night up through this morning.

It never would’ve gotten the chance to restart

For frick's sake, the game was moved up to 3 PM from 4 PM! I don't know how many times I have to post this!

Here, don't take my word for it.

It has to, you can't give one team more outs.

Last night was an oddity because the leading team switched in the half inning of the cancellation. I have seen worse. The "gentlemen's rule" is to assure both team equal opportunity to hit and pitch in the same conditions. Back in 2010 or 2011, I remember LSU In the tournament playing Georgia...bad rain starts the game and LSU scores nine runs or something crazy in the T1. Mid-inning, umps delay the game and UGA coaches go crazy - and rightfully so. They started the game from that point the next morning and the game was already over.

This is correct. And for midweek games 3 p.m. is early. School dismisses at 3:45 and it was chaotic. UM did a lot of things to alleviate the issue but you cannot control weather. And the tarp thing is ridiculous...it was a lightening delay and the storms were keeping me up until 3 a.m. today. It wasn't one of those - there's a lightening strike in Batesvill - it was bad!

Also, that game means almost nothing in grand scheme of things. It was not going to decide whether Ole Miss makes the tournament or not. I mean you can't lose all of your mid-week February games but in general, they don't matter. If they are around .500 or better in conference play they get in. It does possibly hurt La Tech from a good win (not a guarantee that was going to happen) perspective due to their strength of conference schedule.

Yeah, that's the duality of it. We all say midweek games don't matter, because they don't, for us.

A 2 game series sweep at Ole Miss would have been big for LA Tech's resume, but 1-1 ain't bad either.

That's true. LA Tech is a good program. Made the tournament two years in a row.

Please help me understand what good the tarp would have done in a lighting delay, wasn't even raining. So reason 1 of the bush league discredited.

The game was moved up an hour from the original start time. Reason 2 discredited.

Reshedule a game to play 3 innings. This isn't rec ball where you just drive a few miles to the park on a Wed night to play 3 innings. LA Tech coach was just talking shite because he knows that was never going to happen.

Lsu moved up a weekend series game, the first of the year so moving the game did nothing with messing up the schedule other than piss off some fans who had to change their schedule.

All these points are bogus.

next time they should just let the players play in the middle of the lighting I suppose.

The main point here is: Covering the field when its not raining in the middle of a lighting delay is not what caused the game to be called.
