Bama fans, a few questions from my childhood memories about your football programs.

* You had newspaper type programs in the 70’s I think, what years and were they the “official” programs?

* When did you start with the usual programs like we have now?

* Didn’t you play some doubleheader games in Jackson where two games were played? I seem to recall LSU/MSU day and Bama Ole MIss night in mid 70’s?

Thank you. An LSU fan who respects you but of course wants to beat you....

This sounds epic.

Should do MSU-Ole Miss during the day and LSU-Bama at night

Not in Jackson though, dont need anyone getting killed.

Not quite old enough to remember the double headers. But I do remember when not all games were on tv, and it sounds like the SEC and the schools involved were accomadating a tv network.

Slick magazine programs were standard from 1970 on... don’t know earlier.

I sold those programs at Bama games as a kid.

I did attend a Jackson double-header but was in mid 80s, Ole Miss v Tenn and night game was LSU v State.

Did you ever run into Bobby Humphrey selling cokes at Legion Field? One of my favorite players as a kid, but they told that same story every game there back when our biggest home were played there.

that's generally wrong....not sure what you are referring to but the programs were your typical magazine types....but who kew what was floating around in those days......there used to be a weekly SEC rag that was newspaper type and sold around town (Birmingham)

My old man got one of his first jobs working these games as a teen. He has told me how crazy it was working both games and getting four fan bases come in and out. I wish this was something that could still happen. Ole miss and state play a double in jackson. Bama auburn play one in b’ham, etc. Would be a hell of a good time.

No Bobby Humphrey sightings. I was before his time. Guys who sold coke were inside stadium, program sellers were outside. I started in 1970 while in junior high school

The earliest I remember having were from the mid 70's and those were magazine type. Not sure what years the newspaper types were used.

There was at least one double header in Jackson. Maybe more. I think it was MSU/Bama and OM/LSU. We also had several at Legion field. At least one was Bama/LSU and AU/UT.

I was at that 10-7 loss to Ole Miss opening night in Jackson in 1976.

I still have in my possession one of those newspaper programs from the mid seventies.

No, a good friend of mine who recently passed away gave me two or three of those old programs before he passed. We used to go to games together when I was in high school, before I went to Bama.

He and I also went to the MSU night game in Jackson in 1977.

I sold programs at Bama v FSU game. FSU coach Darryl Mudra coached from the press box to perhaps break their long losing streak and it almost worked.

Bama won 8-7

I don't remember much about the programs but I do remember vividly playing double header games in Birmingham with Auburn and I know the Mississippi teams played double header games in Jackson. It made sense when the 2 major state teams played off campus games in those cities on the same day.
