Question about Vacating Wins

Does anyone really know or understand the point of this? What's the NCAA's angle when they vacate wins? Does it really even matter to anyone?
FWIW, I still recognize all of Ole Miss' accomplishments even after they were forced to vacate 30 something wins.
It's all about on field results IMO

I'm certain I saw a Louisville fan lurking on here. They'd be happy to explain the win vacating impetus.

They stopped forfeiting because it retroactively changed conference champions.
What about our 84 SEC title?

They put up a replacement banner that just says "2013" on it.

Vacating is better than forfeiting imo.
Had the NCAA vacated Miss State's wins in 1976 instead of forfeiting them, Kentucky would not have been awarded a co-SEC championship with UGa 2 years after the fact. So I think it is better to vacate than forfeit, but I understand both sides of the argument. Or do you think the win should not be changed at all? If so, UF is going to need to claim a few more SEC titles.

Yea, that was a reach. I was mixing forfeiting with vacating.

Alabama would be #2 all time behind Michigan and be knocking on the door for #1 if not for the vacated victories. It's more of an ego hit than anything.

The now illegal (original) banner that said NCAA Champions was purchased by a local downtown bar owner and he hangs it outside his bar on game days.

What about their 2012 Final Four banner? That should be in Gainesville.

Arkansas now only 2-9 last year. Our record is looking better and better every day.

Yeah you'd think that as a State fan he'd be familiar with the difference between vacating wins and forfeiting wins

To right the ship. Moorhead is now 0-1 against Gus.

Vacating wins is stupid.

What else can they do though? Can't just use bans and scholly reductions because then people cry about how that's not fair to current players and coaches.

I guess. It will go down officially as an 0-5 season. The teams we beat still count it as a loss. That's how the 2005 Alabama vacation was handled. We still show a loss to them, they just can't count the win. We still show losses to Ole Miss in 2012 and 2014 as well even though they vacated those games.
